My wife's iPod nano, 5th generation, is connected to a dock, but says, "Connect to power". It won't work.

You should rule out a fault in the "dock" you are using as the cause. It's possible it's not providing power. If you have a regular USB docking cable that is known to be good, try using it instead of that dock connection. If you have a USB power adapter (like the one that comes with iPhone or other device), you can connect USB docking cable to power adapter, and connect iPod there.


If you cannot get it to go passed that screen that indicated low battery power, after ruling out a problem with power connection, then it may be a battery that no longer holds a charge. Or it may be a problem with iPod's dock connector; it may be worn out and not connecting power. If you leave it connected for a while and "Connect to power" remains on iPod's screen, it's more likely to be the battery that's bad. If no power is reaching battery (and battery is still OK), then the screen should eventually go OFF (not stay on continuously).


It is possible to replace battery, but for an iPod nano, the procedure requires soldering wires to the battery. Here's a web site with an illustrated guide
