Mac Mini Beach Ball

Hey Guys,

I recently bought a new Mac Mini with the 3 GHz i7, 16 GB Ram, Intel Iris 1.5 GB and Fusion Drive. At my previous job I edited on a 6 core Mac Pro but I can't afford that at the moment. I am trying to use it to edit footage from the DJI Phantom 4 and DJI Osmo, both capturing in 4k. It is often freezing during import and transcoding and even if I force quit and reopen FCPX, it doesn't work again until I delete the files I was uploading when it froze. Any suggestions on a workflow or settings that will be more stable?

Try capturing without transcoding switched on.

So try use original media vs proxy or optimized?

If you need to transcode, that can be done in the Browser on a clip by clip basis.

Background transcoding may be swamping the system.

4K may tax your mini without proxy or prores files. Try it.

No, its a 1 TB fusion drive.

Ffusion drive is not adequate for video. Get a good fast external USB3 or Thunderbolt drive.
