Adding RAM to MacBook Pro 13-inch without retina

Hey,

I want to buy a MacBook Pro 13-inch without Retina. The description says I can buy the version with 4 or 8 GB RAM, but I would like to have 16, at least. Is it possible to put 16 GB RAM on a MacBook Pro 13-inch without Retina?

Let me know, thanks!

If this is the 2012 non-Retina model, then you can install 16GBs of RAM, but not through Apple. So buy the 4GB model then visit OWC to purchase two 8GB modules to replace the two that come with it.

Maximum Memory16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
Memory Slots2 - 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

The above is for the 2012 non-Retina 13" model.

Thank you so much Kappy, your comment was extremely Helpful. Let me ask you another dumb question: if I buy the RAM separately, how can I put it into my laptop? As I understand, Apple won't do this service. Should I be careful of what RAM I buy, or who is changing the RAM? And how can I be sure that the laptop won't be ruined after the change happens?

Thank you so much, take care!

As Oglethorpe said installing RAM is very simple. The important thing is to keep pressing until you feel or hear a click. This can take more pressure than you might think. What RAM you buy and who you buy it from is very important - there’s a lot of junk RAM on the market. I always buy from Crucial or OWC or from my local Apple store (who buys Crucial only).

Yes, I have the same Macbook Pro Mid-2012 13-inch Non-retina, model # MD101LL/A

( A1278 ).

I would Max out the Ram with 16gb if I where you. Ram is really inexpensive today. It is not going to get any cheaper.

OS-X will eat up 8gb. of ram very quickly so 16gb. is best.

Since you have your Macbook open you might as well upgrade your hard-drive with an SSD also. For best performance.

Here is a tool kit you will need.
