Sep 20, 2016 12:38 AM in response to SMRomeoby Kappy,★HelpfulIf this is the 2012 non-Retina model, then you can install 16GBs of RAM, but not through Apple. So buy the 4GB model then visit OWC to purchase two 8GB modules to replace the two that come with it.
Maximum Memory 16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple) Memory Slots 2 - 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM The above is for the 2012 non-Retina 13" model.

Sep 20, 2016 12:38 AM in response to Kappyby SMRomeo,Thank you so much Kappy, your comment was extremely Helpful. Let me ask you another dumb question: if I buy the RAM separately, how can I put it into my laptop? As I understand, Apple won't do this service. Should I be careful of what RAM I buy, or who is changing the RAM? And how can I be sure that the laptop won't be ruined after the change happens?
Thank you so much, take care!

Sep 20, 2016 4:44 AM in response to SMRomeoby OGELTHORPE,Installation of RAM in the 2012 MBP is very easy. Look at this video:
https://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/macbookpro_13_unibody_mid12/
Another excellent source of Mac compatible RAM is Crucial.
Ciao.

Sep 20, 2016 5:28 AM in response to SMRomeoby dwb,As Oglethorpe said installing RAM is very simple. The important thing is to keep pressing until you feel or hear a click. This can take more pressure than you might think. What RAM you buy and who you buy it from is very important - there’s a lot of junk RAM on the market. I always buy from Crucial or OWC or from my local Apple store (who buys Crucial only).

Sep 22, 2016 3:17 AM in response to alex7375by SMRomeo,Thank you all. I wrote to a computer shop where they usually able to set up RAM and they said that you cannot put 16 GB RAM into this macbook, but only 8 GB. Is that correct? Alex, are you sure you have the same model or do you have the one with Retina?

Sep 22, 2016 3:36 AM in response to SMRomeoby OGELTHORPE,★HelpfulThe people at that shop are behind the times. A 2012 MBP can indeed accept 16 GB RAM as this link indicates:
https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_16 00MHz_SDRAM
OWC guarantees their RAM will work, so if you want to install 16GB RAM, do so with confidence.
Ciao.

Sep 22, 2016 9:31 AM in response to SMRomeoby alex7375,Yes, I have the same Macbook Pro Mid-2012 13-inch Non-retina, model # MD101LL/A
( A1278 ).
I would Max out the Ram with 16gb if I where you. Ram is really inexpensive today. It is not going to get any cheaper.
OS-X will eat up 8gb. of ram very quickly so 16gb. is best.
Since you have your Macbook open you might as well upgrade your hard-drive with an SSD also. For best performance.
Here is a tool kit you will need.
