IOS 10 on iPhone 6s - Battery drain issue

Hello Everyone!,

I have updated the Official IOS 10 OTA on my iPhone 6s, Here are the Initial impressions, I felt everything refreshing about IOS10, However one thing(The major) bit bothering me, Did anyone felt that Battery is draining Faster? In the morning Around 8:30 AM it was 89% after i did the update, Currently it's 56% (Straight 89% to 56%), I hardly used for mobile calls about 40mins, Whatsapp 20mins and other misc internet activites about 30mins or so, This was not the case with IOS9.3.5 and on screen time on an aggregate used to be 4hrs 30mins or slightly above, I seriously expected better battery life.

Thanks,

Sunil

I'm comparing the same Device, same daily usage, same Apps and the only difference is the update iOS.

The rest of your message logic, and this is what we expect from the iOS to always make sure it's compliant with all Apps, specially that in iOS Apps merely work in the background.

But the same apps are not doing exactly the same thing. There are over 1 million apps, and Apple does do basic testing, mostly to assure they are secure. They cannot possible test 1 million apps for every possible bug they might have.

If you are waiting for Apple to do something you will be very disappointed. Your choices are to troubleshoot the problem, live with it, or buy some other product (which will have the same or similar issues at some point in time).

Ways to troubleshoot this issue are represented by many thousands of posts and threads. You can either read them, or ask for help and someone will suggest some solutions. Or call Apple support or visit an Apple store. But if you are just here to complain the problem will never go away.

@Lawerence,

I agree with you, and I troubleshoot most of my apps and follow lots of other posts also. I'm not also posting to complain but still we raise the issue so the iOS engineers would pay attention.

Thx.

This forum is not how you get Apple's attention on an issue. Use the feedback link for that:

I'm having the same issue except worst. My iPhone was at 100% at 6:30am this morning and at 11:30am my phone's battery died. But its not that it just died, but it's been dying from 20%,30% and sometimes 40% of the battery life that it says it has left. Meaning sometimes it doesn't get to the 20% warning before it shuts off. That is a huge problem for me! 😠 The battery life and health seems to have decreased significantly since the upgrade. The one app I see really eating at the battery is the Built-in Calendar app at 36% which is unbelievable how the calendar app can eat at the battery so much. The phone was not having this problem before the update. Apple either must have really screwed up its battery life algorithms or really juiced up the background processes. There's also been sometimes when the back of the phone has gotten really hot when I wasn't running any high intense performance apps. Something is messed up and I hope Apple releases an update fixing this issue. I've never had this issue with any of my iPhones in the 8 years that I've owned one. I've only had this phone for a little over a year so there's no way in heck that this phone should be at this point in its battery health cycle (meaning good at the beginning and decreasing till it dies). I get the steps of maximizing performance but this definitely makes me question Apple's product quality after the first year.

Mine has been doing the same thing, and only since i updated. My phone was completely charged at 7:00 this morning, and it's at 11% right now. I haven't even been using it. I sincerely hope they put out a new update to try and rectify this, i've been an iphone user since the 3, but i can't have a phone that will not last throughout the day without me even using it.

Here is my thing with this; I just watched my phone go from 49% battery to 12% batter quite literally in the blink of an eye, however I plug my phone back in and it suddenly shows 41% battery. Last night my phone is at 34% battery and it turns off and indicates the battery is dead; when I plugged my phone in it powered up and indicated 33% power. While this MAY in fact be an app issue, I'm honestly not sure how I would troubleshoot that, as nothing appears abnormal in the battery use monitoring. It just doesn't seem like an app would cause that type of fluctuation. Has anyone made any progress here?

You have a different problem. Either your battery is failing, or your phone's battery gauge is inaccurate. You can check the state of the battery with the app Battery Life from the app store. To recalibrate the battery gauge:

  • Charge to 100%
  • Run the battery down until the phone shuts off
  • If it shuts off above 1% charge it for a minute only, then continue running the battery down. Repeat until it makes it to 1% before shutting off
  • Charge it to 100% again

Hey guys, there is another issue that might be related to what you are discussing, the symptoms go like this:

  • the 6s switches off even when the battery reading is higher than 1% (say 30%, 10%, etc) and when you try to turn it back on it shows you the “plug in to charge” screen
  • If you connect the charger you can turn it on
  • If you then enable the Low Power mode and disconnect the charger it stays on for a few hours until battery reaches 1%

This issue has affected some users recently. No one knows whether it is a hardware or a software problem. I suggest you take a look at this discussion on the MacRumors forum because I do not see the point of repeating everything what has been described there:
