Q: Activity sharing not working at all

I'm having problems with activity sharing. I have two friends, both are on iOS 10 and watchOS3. I can add them, they get the notification and agree and then NOTHING happens. The wheel in the activity app on iOS keeps spinning and spinning. Anyone experienced this? Tried to delete the invitations and re-submit, but not working either.

Apple Watch, watchOS 3

Yes, I have the same problem.  While Googling for a solution, I found this post suggesting that it was picked up during Beta, but never addressed:  https://forums.developer.apple.com/thread/48880

In my case, no recover from backup. Simple apple watch unpair then pair back with the iPhone.

You need to be a little clearer in your terminology - what I think you mean is "unpairing" in the sense of briefly stopping Bluetooth on your iPhone.  In that case, yes, it is a simple process.

However, there is another use of "unpair" from the Apple Watch app, which is a far more serious affair:  your Watch is completely reset and the only way to get it working again is a "set up as new" or "restore from backup".  For this, you need to set aside a good 40 minutes, and be prepared to go through the process of adding your credit/debit cards back to the Watch afterwards.

See my similar response below - do you mean unpair it in Bluetooth, or actually unpair the Watch from the iPhone?

One is a 60 second job... the other can take more than 60 minutes (it took me 20 minutes just now to complete unpairing).

True, I think I needed to be more clear. I tough all of us clearly discussed about the watch unpair/pair full procedure, not just the Bluetooth. The Bluetooth unpair/pair will only disconnect/connect locally and will most likely not solve the issue as it looks like the issue is more related to the iCloud sync. Try to do a Watch completely reset  and then "set up as new" or "restore from backup". I suggest "restore from backup" so that you'll have it the way you had it before. This is what I did and it takes about 30 minutes (it varies based on each user content).

Unfortunately, unpairing and re-pairing with a restore didn't fix the issue.  I can see my friends in the Activity app, but they're showing as 0%

I have exactly the same problem... the invitation is accepted, they can see my activity data, but I can't see theirs.

Both of us have tried rebooting devices, unsharing, re-sharing.  I have tried a full unpair and re-pair of my Watch, restoring from backup.  Last thing to try is for the other person to do that, but is this really the solution?  Seems rather drastic, just to get a relatively trival feature to work.

This exactly my symptoms and the actions I took Trying to resolve it. If you don't see their data, they need to unpair and repair. Worked for me. I guess it's either that or wait for the next patch.

I have FULLY unpaired and re-paired two Apple Watches (both series 2)... Activity Sharing STILL doesn't work. It allows me to send a Share Activity "invitation" but when the other person accepts it's just an endless spinning wheel.  Have tried hard restarts on new associated iPhones and restarting watches as well. Any other suggestions?

I saw this with a friend as well. He was able to force quit Activity app and then restarted the app. The invite was accepted at that point.

The problem isn't on your side but theirs. THey are the ones that need to un-pair and re-pair.

I have been experiencing the same issue, not only with my Apple Watch Series 1, but with the Series 2 that arrived yesterday. I have restored my iPhone with a fresh iOS 10 in DFU. The watch was cleared and I have setup both and brand new with no restore from backup. I am interested in others experience but I did note, I use an apple ID that was once a .mac was then a .me and now a .icloud...... When I sign in to a device I usually use .me as I have had the habit the longest, but when I review any settings that use my apple ID it represents itself as .mac, so I tried (after another restore) to setup all my devices with .mac at login rather than .me, it did not fix the issue, but curiously when people would invite me using .icloud or .me or even my phone number I would get the invite, accept and then get a spinning cog, but if anyone invited me using .mac they would get an error saying the person needs to have an apple watch to share activity. I am getting the feeling this may at times be an issue with the apple ID? Does anyone else use legacy .mac or .me who are having this issue?

Just noticed that each time you re-pair your watch to your phone (and restore from a backup) Apple Health lists it as a new watch.

Consequently I now have the same watch listed about 5 times in the health app.

Is this a bug? It's only happened since iOS 10.

Just wanted to share: Repairing my watch also fixed this issue.

Wow. I think I may have a breakthrough here...

    • Un-Pairing and Re-Pairing the Watch seems to be working for some people, so try that first! Instructions here on how to do that: Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone - Apple Support
    • If that doesn't work, go to Settings > iCloud, take note of the address (under your name) that your Apple ID is associated with, if ends in @me.com or @mac.com, you need to change it so it ends in @icloud.com. In order to do this scroll down to the bottom of this page and select "Sign Out". After this process completes (which may take a few minutes) you can sign back into iCloud on your phone with your @icloud address which will be exactly the same as your old address, except the end is changed to "@icloud". For more info on that confusing craziness, look here: iCloud: About your @icloud.com, @me.com, and @mac.com email addresses - Apple Support

GOOD LUCK! Let me know if this works for you.

Apple are aware of the problem. I had a 60 call with Apple yesterday.

They downloaded logs from my watch and will be in touch next week.

    They are watching this thread.
