STARTUP DISK SPACE SEEMS TO DISAPPEAR

I m using a MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011) with 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 using OS X El Captain having 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3.

Recently my Start UP disk ran out of space and subsequently, i freed some 22GB of space. Then after a week the free space disappeared. I had not done any major work in the interim.

However, i again found another 20 GB worth of data to be deleted. 2 Days later, this again disappeared.

what is happening?

MacBook Air, iOS 10

Download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper and Grand Perspective (both free) and open them. They will show all of your files and the respective sizes. Transfer to an external HDD the files you do not want on your Mac or delete them.

Do not forget to empty trash. Only then is space allocated for additional data.
