My iPhone got bricked after ios 10 upgrade and got stuck on connect to itunes scree. I followed all the steps and managed to get my iPhone working. However, I lost all of my data and I do not have a backup at all!!! Upgrading my ios should have been so smooth while connecting to a wifi. My wife's phone got upgraded smoothly except mine.

Sorry, but without a recent backup, either made to iCloud or to iTunes on your computer, your data can't be restored.
If you did backup, did you check for older backups?
I did not backup and I always update to new ios using wifi. I wonder why on earth apple do not use external storage!!

You are responsible for your data, not Apple.
In this digital world, it's backup, backup and backup.
Very sorry, but this is your fault.
It has never been ok to update any software on any system without a backup.
Nothing should only be stored in one place. This has always been the case.
Hopefully, this will be a good lesson for the future. Always maintain a backup.
