Recent Contacts in iOS 10?

I updated to iOS 10 yesterday, and I noticed that now, when I swipe right, I get a bunch of stuff like the weather, maps destinations, recent apps, up next, etc. The one thing I no longer get is the four most recent contacts I've called, which is the one thing I use the most.

It was so easy to swipe, press my husband's or mom's picture, and make a call. Now, I have to either open the messages app (and press his picture), or the contacts app and scroll down to find the number.

How do I get my 4 most recents contacts back on that screen so I don't have to go through the extra steps?? I tried using the edit button, but it doesn't have the option to add contacts.

Hi iDrow,

I understand that you are looking to get contacts added to your new widgets in iOS 10. I know it's nice to have common contacts easily accessible, so I'm happy to help.

Check out this article about modifying your widgets:
Use Widgets on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Add or remove Widgets in the Today View

You can add and remove Widgets and even reorder them so your favorite ones are at the top.

  1. Swipe right over the Home screen, Lock screen, orNotification Center.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Edit.
  3. To add a Widget, tap User uploaded file. To remove a Widget, tap User uploaded file. To reorder your Widgets, touch and hold User uploaded file next to the apps and drag them in the order you want.
  4. To finish, tap Done.

Here are apps that you can add to Widgets:

  • Activity
  • Calendar
  • Contacts
  • FaceTime
  • Find Friends
  • Home
  • Mail
  • Maps
  • Music
  • News
  • Notes
  • Phone
  • Photos
  • Reminders
  • Stocks
  • Tips
  • Weather

For your purposes, you will want to check out Contacts or Favorites.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities, cheers!

Hi Allen,

The page you linked to listed Contacts as an app that can be added to the Today View using 3D touch. As I don't have a 3D-touch-enabled phone I can't test this approach.

If I scroll to the bottom of the Today View and tap on Edit, Contacts is not listed as one of the available widgets.

This feature is very important to me. It was working all right before I upgraded. Please let me know how I can reenable it.

Thanks!

iOS 8-9 original view. It's is now optimized for iOS 10 but is "still there".

1. Swipe to widgets > pres edit > add favorites.

2. Go to your contacts > favorites > add the favorites you'd like

3. Now swipe into widgets again and you'll have the added favorites in your widgets. NB. In widgets you can also adjust which widget you want on top.

4. If you're on iPhone 6s or 7 the 3D force thingy also displays favorites on the phone ico when hard pressing it.

photos below display my 4 step procedure.

Hope this help

This isn't an answer. I have the same issue. I'm just commenting to say most of you guys are blatantly ignoring the initial question. The OP said RECENT. Not FAVORITES!

I pulled it up by accident one day and I have lot been able to do it again and it's frustrating. So if anyone actually has a valid response to how to access the RECENT CONTACTS please let me know. Please and thank you.

I believe that iDrow mentioned specific stuff as how convenient recent was because of the availability to contact specific people. Quote: It was so easy to swipe, press my husband's or mom's picture, and make a call. Now, I have to either open the messages app (and press his picture), or the contacts app and scroll down to find the number.

And the solution I gave is still a solution that gives a some what look/feel as in iOS 9 and it's just a swipe away, just as before. recents/favorites, the outcome is the same.

However if you want recents, alone and dont care about the visuals - which my above mentioned solution leans towards - then one has to own a newer model with force touch but it's an extra tap if you care.

Here's what I mean

User uploaded file

Theres no "classic" iOS 9 recents in iOS 10. My suggestions is what we have, and you are blatantly ignoring what is said and clinge to the word recent.

Have a nice day..
