Q: I know why you have to wait a week to get your phone screen repaired!!
I'm clumsy. As a result, I crack my iphone screen about twice a year. Each time I go through the pain of trying to arrange a repair. It is generally easier to get an appointment at my over-subscribed doctors surgery! Last time the wait was over a week and my phone didn't work and was forced (absolutely no other option) to go to an unauthorised repair centre to get this fixed.
It's broken again and I have just arranged an appointment at the apple store this time to get it fixed.......in over a week's time!
So why is it easier to get an appointment at the doctors than get your phone fixed - someone in an Apple store told me.....and then said "I shouldn't have told you that"
Apple calibrate each of their screen repairs to ensure it is working properly - great! They use a special machine to do this. Each calibration takes 45 minutes, so they have a scheduling system to ensure they can book these in to be calibrated.
So how many of these calibration machines do you think they have in a very busy, large store based in a major shopping centre....20...15.....10 - no, 2!!! This is the sole reason that you are not able to get an appointment to fix your life/business critical bit of kit, on average (from my experience) for at least a week.
What a joke! For a company the size of Apple, that must see screen repairs as the most common issue, to have 2 machines and be able to fix just 2 screens an hour is just ridiculous.
For me and many others, this is THE key frustration with Apple. The products are amazing but why on earth have they not invested in making their existing customers lives easier when they break.
The machines are £15k each. Not a small chunk but to a company the size of Apple and also the fact that this would channel the repair business directly through them, it makes no sense why they haven't made that investment to stop massively frustrating their customers.
