Q: Photo albums not syncing on iOS 10

Every time I try to sync my regular photo albums to my iPhone with the newly updated iOS 10, the photos sync but aren't showing in albums.

They show in the photos tab under different dates, but not in the albums section in the appropriate album titles the they are synced with.

Ive never had this problem until updating to iOS 10 today.

Please help! Having these photos sorted into albums is a necessity for me!

iPhone 6, iOS 8.3, null

I'm now not sure what I did, even though it was only a couple of weeks ago. Here are some thoughts:

    • ensure all the photos you want to keep are in a folder on your PC (hint: if you've got some on the Camera Roll on the iPhone you can copy them from the iPhone DCIM folders in the iPhone's internal storage that you display under whatever you've named "My Computer")
    • on the PC, create a new folder and leave it empty
    • with the iPhone connected to the PC, set Photos in iTunes to sync with the new empty folder
    • Sync, and check that your iPhone no longer has any photos on it
    • disconnect the iPhone from the PC and reset the network settings (hint: Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings)
    • hard restart the iPhone and the PC and launch iTunes
    • reconnect the iPhone and in iTunes set Photos to sync with the specific photo folder you want
    • Sync, and check that your iPhone now has the folders you want

And I sure hope that works. If it doesn't, at least you still have your original photos.

Robert, thanks for the details on the process. I hope it works for me!

I had the same problem.  I always have this problem when there is an iOS update.  Always! I used to just uncheck the sync photos in iTunes, sync phone, then check the photo albums and sync again to fix the problem.  That didn't work with the iOS 10 update.

Thankfully I found this conversation string and your suggestions worked.  I went on my Mac, created a new subfolder in the folder I sync my albums from (not Photos), put one picture in that new subfolder, went back into iTunes, selected that new folder to sync to my iPhone, in addition to all of the subfolders I always sync, and voila! The albums were back!  The I just went into iTunes, unchecked the bogus sub folder I created and ran a sync one last time to get it off of my phone.  I worked and I'm glad there was a work around. I have over 6,000 photos on my phone and you bet I want them in albums.

I am very disappointed that this is a chore that I know I will have to do every time Apple releases a new iOS update.

    >> Thanks.  That solution worked.  Now its backed to normal.  No more unwanted or missing albums.

I had the same problem. After upgrading to iOS 10 on my iPhone 6+, iTunes would sync individual photos but not my albums. All my pix were on my iPhone, but they only appeared arranged by dates, not in albums. I've never had this problem until updating to iOS 10.

I fixed it by deleting the folder "iPod Photo Cache" then syncing my phone. It took a little longer than usual to sync because the system first erased my photos on the iPhone then re-copied all 700+ photos in 9 folders. But when it was done, my pix were back in folders just like before.

This is an iOS 10 bug - Apple, are you listening???

I've spent the past two hours fiddling with and semi-solving this problem.

I believe it did start with iOS 10; I never had this problem before.

I uploaded new photos, made new albums, and renamed old albums.

    Here's what I've learned:

    • Simply upgrading my Mac from El Kapitan to Sierra didn't fix it.

    • Many of the "work-arounds" in this thread, tried alone, do not fix the problem.

    • Multiple "work-arounds", performed together, do seem to fix the problem.

    • I think that the album name listing is always "one sync behind".

    • Most successful fix: Quit Photos/iTunes; hard restart iPhone; sync again.

I agree that this is a bug that Apple needs to fix in a future update!!!

I'd been having the same problem not seeing and syncing Photos in iTunes for an iPhone 6 (iOS10) to a Mac (Sierra) for a bit, too, and the fixes above weren't working for me.

    Here's what worked for me:

    1. Quit Photos and iTunes.
    2. In Pictures/Photos Library, select Show Package Contents from the right-click contextual menu.
    3. From there, go to iPod Photo Cache and deleted contents.
    4. Empty Trash.
    5. Turn off Wi-Fi connection on Mac. My suspicion is that iCloud is somehow the culprit here, so I cut off my connection there.
    6. Open Photos. Open iTunes - in Photos sync window, make sure albums appear and are selected to sync.
    7. Sync.

See if that works. It worked for me.

    -Virgil
