Q: PDFs are corrupted or empty in Mac OS X Mail but fine in same message on iPhone/iPad
all messages (viewed on my laptop) that have a pdf now just show the spinning pinwheel for ages and when they finally display it only shows the pdf icon and clicking on that brings up an error message that it is empty or corrupted (exact message depends on what program I try using to open it)
If I view the same mail message on my iPhone or iPad the pdf displays just fine.
If I forward the mail message from my laptop, the pdf sends with zero bytes
OS X El Capitan 10.11.6
Mail 9.3

Re: mail app takes too long to load attachments
1. If you've installed any third-party plugins for Mail, such as "SpamSieve," remove them according to the developer's instructions, then log out or restart the computer and test. Back up all data before making any changes.
2. In the Advanced settings for the mail account, uncheck the box marked
Send large attachments with Mail Drop
if it's checked. If you have more than one account, repeat with each one. Relaunch Mail and test.
#2 fixed the problem for me
