Disable iCloud music library on iOS10?

I don't like to keep music on my phone and after updating to iOS10 purchased music is now showing up on my phone (not downloaded but still automatically plays when connects to my car's bluetooth... streaming over my cellular data connecting I'm assuming). I've gone to settings > music > and looked to toggle off iCloud Music Library... no such setting. I've looked all around the music app for some setting to show downloaded music only but can't find any such setting. The only way it goes away is in settings > iTunes & app store > logging out... but then I'm not logged into the app store anymore. Does anyone know how I can get rid of all this cloud based music I don't want on my phone!??!

I

know your problem. Why is the join Apple Music option there? On a normal device, that should not show because you have already subscribed. I suspect your free trial is over. The reason why you are plying your Apple Music library over your data plan is because that Music is your purchased Music from iTunes and is the only music left in your music library. As per you'll screen shot, you are not subscribed to Apple Music now. Please see how it should look if you are still subscribed

Sure, choosing the "downloaded" list is a workaround, but there shouldn't be a need for a workaround. I think that the problem is that "purchased" is a playlist that you can't get rid of (not from the phone, and not when syncing to your computer). And purchased looks to the cloud for everything that you haven't manually synced to the phone.

Apple, if please let us remove the "purchased" playlist. I can't see how it benefits you beyond having some kind of kickback from the cellular carriers for increasing data usage.

Struesdell - after months of being bothered by this I found the solution to having the menu show up under settings music on my iPhone 5s. It still doesn't fix them not showing/playing after they are already streamed to the device.. They seem to be in the background saved somewhere because I can turn wifi off and the 2 I streamed still play.

I have another device linked with the songs downloaded but I gave in and went into Settings - iTunes & App Store clicked on my ID and then view account. Next chose to remove this device.

I went into the music app (still showing downloads only) and the buggers were there. I just clicked one still in the cloud, (preciously I had turned off the music app under cellular data) and it prompted about streaming and I said Yes. The pop up said to go to music in settings and turn off. I went into settings and the options are there now.

The issue now is that the 2 songs I used to stream are still playing when I open music and just shuffle on all music even though when I click them they say I must enable streaming to play.

I think there should be a way to hide all items in the cloud, but can't find that. Hope this helps a little

I'm still having this problem and it's driving me crazy. I've read through this entire thread, but I still don't see any solution that applies to me. Has anyone found any other solutions?

My status:

- I have never joined Apple Music and have "Show Apple Music" disabled in Settings (I see the "Join Apple Music" link right below the "Show Apple Music" setting that I have toggled off).

- Below that is the Genius setting, which I also have toggled off.

- Below that is the Cellular Data setting which is turned off.

- There is no iCloud Music setting showing anywhere.

- Despite the Cellular Data setting being turned off, my phone seems to connect to the cloud to play random previous iTunes purchases (songs which are not on my phone), without my permission or action, when it connects to Bluetooth in my car.

This is unauthorized data usage, unwanted behavior, and not something I would EVER want my phone to do.

I've been part of the Apple ecosystem for 20 years but this is the kind of thing that has been moving me toward increased diversification in the last couple of years (I've recently been buying into a lot more of the Amazon ecosystem than I would ever have done had Apple not started trying to force lots of unwanted crap on its loyal users). Seriously, just having to take that extra step of hitting "Downloaded Music" every time I open the Music app enrages me every single time I connect my phone.

rfavanagh & strusdell - From the testing I have done tonight and the hour long phone call with apple support, the songs may not actually be streaming of cellular. I can't 100% confirm this at this time, but I am 75% positive. I have them looking into it.

I disabled all of the "cellular" options mentioned previously and even disabled the "Wifi Assist" and the option below it. I was still having the same problems as everyone has cited. To narrow down the problem, I deleted all of the songs on the iPhone and began messing with the iTunes sign-in and Wifi.

- What I noticed was that, as one solution mentioned, when you sign-out of iTunes it of course disabled the link to streaming any songs that weren't on the phone.

- Once signed-in, my purchased playlist appeared; however, it required me to sign-in in order to play or listen to them over Wifi or change the cellular settings. None of these songs would play at this time.

- Once I enabled Wifi, the songs would play as I selected through the playlist. So to test, I disabled Wifi and a few songs would play, but what I noticed was it was only the songs I had streamed at that point, which was like 5 songs; however, none of the songs I hadn't streamed would not play. The phone would just skip through them.

- To test this again, I enabled Wifi and streamed a few more songs. At this point, similar findings were observed, which narrows the problem to the iTunes account and the purchased playlist.

- Strangely, with the phone synced to the computer, these streamed songs would appear to be included in the "Songs" memory usage bar at the bottom. This leads me to believe that they are stored in a cache or somewhere on the phone, even though the menu gives you the option to "download" the song to the phone in the Music app.

- Therefore I believe the only work-around at this point is to sign-out of your iTunes account on the device.

Totally baffled, and there's no clear answer online. The option to turn on the iCloud music library is not on either of my phones. I am logged in with the one and only ID and can't figure out how to get my !@#$ music onto my phone. After two hours, they're both headed down two stories onto the concrete. I have no idea what this company is doing, but I am NOT subscribing to their music service, I am NOT buying a stupid headset and I just simply want to play some music on my phone. Is it asking too much? I have to connect a cable and download it? Really? Why not buy some 8-track tapes, it would be easier.

I updated to iOS10 this morning (I'm regretting that now - but that's another story).

As to iCloud Library, on my phone under Settings > Music I do have the option to toggle iCLoud Music Library to on or off. Mine is currently set to off as I sync my phone via wifi sync after iCloud messed up my ratings in iOS9. I'm not sure why yours would be missing - unless it was because mine what already off prior to the upgrade.
