Q: iOS10 Photo Scanning Stopped

Not the end of the world I recognise but the face scanning in iOS10 on my iPhone 6 has been stuck at a certain number all of today.

The 'People' album says:

"1,896 Photos Scanned

To finish scanning your remaining 4,949 photos, lock your iPhone and connect it to power."

I have done such a thing and left it for a few hours this afternoon and it still says 1,896 photos.  Have rebooted and killed the photos app a few times but it doesn't restart.

Anyone else had this and been able to fix it?

Same problem on my iPad Air 2. I'm stuck on 8367 scanned, 2340 remaining. I've tried everything I can think of, but to no avail.

I have just checked mine 24 hours later.  The number has changed, in 24 hours (including an overnight charge) it has processed a further 77 photos.  Maybe it is just ***very*** slow!

My iPad Air 2 was stuck for several hours. Force-quitting Photos didn’t fix it. However, after rebooting the iPad, photos resumed scanning as normal. Give it a shot.

I am having this same issue. Two overnight charges have not advanced the scanning.  Glad to see I'm not the only one experiencing this issue.  If anyone finds a solution, please let us know!  The faces feature is really great, I was able to put an album together and create a slideshow...very cool!

Unfortunately a reboot did not fix it.  I will see if it processes any more overnight tonight.  My new iPhone 7 arrives tomorrow so maybe that will fix it !

Reboot did not work for me.

Added 2 new pics to Photos on my MBP. These synced immediately to my iPad and correctly resulted in the "remaining" quantity changing from 2340 to 2342. Ten minutes later, this had dropped back to 2340 where it has still remained ever since. Very puzzling.

I have the same problem.  I had been stuck on 344 since upgrading. Now increased to 349 since yesterday.  Only 4067 to go.  Might manage by the time IOS15 comes out.

I changed my phone to an iPhone 7. First of all it didn't process any photos and then I checked 24 hours later and it had processed all of them.

Appreciate this is not an option for everyone so let's hope someone finds somethinng less drastic to fix it.

I've had this issue since I updated my iPhone 6 to iOS 10 last Tuesday. This morning I decided to try turning iCloud Photo Library off and on again, and after that my photos finally started scanning. Not sure if this will work for everyone, but it worked for me

The new Photos app even on MacOS with a MacPro 3.1GHz i7 16GB DDR3 and a Lacie Raid 6 external disk connected over Thunderbolt 2 is taking forever to scan photos (I estimate 18 days for my 300GB photo library) so I assume a phone will take a while too!
