Q: I cannot update anything with Software Update

Software Updates is not installing anything (Safari, iTunes).

It hangs for hours...

I tried downloading Safari 9.1.3 but after opening the installer after a few seconds it stops and says that the software was not installed.

I recently changed hard drive to an SSD, permissions have been repaired an infinite amount of times...

I have been able to install other software.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Try resetting the App Store and Clearing Cookies. You can also try in the Safe Mode.

I tried all that you suggested, but I still cannot install the downloaded Safari 9.1.3 (installer crashes) or iTunes 12.5.1 (software update hangs forever at "calculating" install time).

I was able to update to Sierra after reinstalling the system... However, Siri did not work at all and I had lost tens of thousands of emails, plus all my signatures and rules, so I went back UP to Mavericks... ;-)

    Thanks

Try installing in another admin account. If that doesn't work, reboot normally.

Try running this program in your normal account , then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.
