iphone 6s spinning wheel on black screen
iPhone 6s, iOS 10
Ok, so, more progress on this:
It's definitely related to Apple's problem with the change to December 2nd (+iOS 11.1.2 +iPhone 6/6s). Three sources enlighten the possible source of the issue:
https://www.imore.com/iphone-crashing-dec-2-heres-fix
App with local notification will crash iOS Springboard on Dec. 2 | Hacker News
http://www.businessinsider.com/ios-11-december-2-bug-causes-iphones-to-crash-201 7-12
I tried:
None of this worked.
While reading this I learnt it’s related to some apps and it’s notifications. And someone at Hacker News discovered HEADSPACE was causing it. So I went and removed Headspace and it worked! Incredible huh? I’ll download the app again after a meaningful update is released.
If you don’t have Headspace and it’s still happening, go and work on the notifications as the first article explained.
Hope it works for you as well.

I was having the same problem so I turned off background app refresh and haven't had the problem since.
settings>general>background app refresh
And here's the official response from Apple: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch unexpectedly restarts - Apple Support
Or go to:
=> Settings
=> General
=> Reset
=> RESET ALL SETTINGS
But not the one => Erase All Content and Settings!!! 😉
It should work!
Hi, I tried a soft reset etc, but it made no difference.
I’ve just reset my phone back to factory settings, and then restored from iTunes backup.
20 minutes in and the problem seems to have cleared...
If you hear back from me on here, then that means there is still a problem...!
I think this may be the only way to get over this.
All the best
Pete
Just had the same issue... Not sure what causes it, but it was really annoying as it was switching to the back screen and spinning wheel every 30 to 40 seconds and could do anything, not text, emails, calls...
Try to simply update to iOS 11.2 or the next higher update you have available => It took me ages to back it up and update it, but at last just done it and for the moment it seems that the iPhone 6+ is back to normal...

Here is an article from Mac Report it worked out nicely for me, just with the update to iOS 11.2

Found other discussion about this problem. Seems the problem relates to notifications issue with apps. Here is their fix:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch unexpectedly restarts
If your device with iOS 11 unexpectedly restarts repeatedly on or after December 2, 2017, learn what to do.
Use these steps to turn off notifications for all the apps on your device, then update your device to iOS 11.2:
If you're unable to update or still have issues after the update, contact Apple Support.

I did this, and now I am in the process of updating to iOS 11.2 and download is now working without shutting down, so fingers crossed, all is good with the notifications turned off.

Strangely, Mine started last night too! I saw the wheel while the phone was charging, i thought it was some auto update. n its been a frustrating day with countless of such blacking out to show the spinning wheel. n then it repeatedly rebooted. I can't text or use the phone properly. I hold a 6Splus on ios11. just tried reset all settings. hope it will help. To add, my phone has not been able to make calls out, showing CALL FAILED. even the telco is finding it strange when it everything looks fine on their end.
I have HEADSPACE too... strange to think this could be the app causing the issue?
Since my complete factory setting reset, and iTunes back up, the problem seems to be sorted.
I hope everyone else is sorting fixes out?
mine too , i have iphone 6 and this started yesterday
anyone have any idea what to do ???
Mine started this morning too. Went to try to find a fix, but none of the ones I found work. I am currently on V 11.1.2, trying to update to V 11.2, but it keeps going back to the black screen with the spinning wheel. One suggested fix was to update my apps, so I tried that but it doesn't work as it keeps going back to that screen. When I go to do anything, email, backup etc. etc., screen lasts just less than a minute then back to the black screen. Can't backup on iCloud either, keeps cutting out, and hard boot did not work???? VERY frustrating, anybody get a fix?
Ok, I did something that fixed it for about 20 minutes but then the issue came back. It blacks out every 20 seconds or so, with the black screen with the spinner and then it goes to the lock screen.
I have an iPhone 6s Plus. I think the latest update generated the problem: iOS 11.1.2. This issue began suddenly at about 12 am EST, December 2nd 2017.
I tried turning it off and on, leaving it off for hours, restarting it with the home and lock buttons pressed until the Apple logo showed up and nothing worked.
I reseted it with the iCloud backup and it solved the issue for about 20 minutes. But after that the issue came back.
I’m relieved it seems to be a software issue, but I’m very worried as it kills productivity on most apps and makes the iPhone virtually useless.
