Ipad 2 had become painstakingly slow...

I'm assuming this is the result of the accumulation of ios updates. What options do I have to optimize?

iPad 2, iOS 9.3.5

If you are down to 285 MBs of free storage space on your iPad, you need to make some serious free space.

Having little free data space on ANY iDevice can have a BIG, negative performance hit on ANY iDevice.

The iOS needs free data space to work within.

You need to regain, AT THE VERY LEAST, 3 GBs of free data storage space. Even more than this is better!

You need to backup your iPad 2 to a computer using the last iOS 9 compatible version of iTunes and/or use iCloud or other cloud services, like DropBox, Amazon Cloud service, Box AND/OR special mobile data storage devices like wireless hard drives from Seagate or Western Digital or special mobile USB flash drives from SanDisk.

Once you have backed up your iPad to, at least iTunes or Apple's iCloud, you need to start deleting stuff off of your iPad.

Things like apps you haven't used in a long while, pair down any music you have on your iPad, delete any photos you do not need on your iPad, pair down or completely delete any device stored video, delete remove any eBooks/iBooks and eMagazines/digital magazines

The iOS App Switcher appears when you double click the home button. You see panels of all of your apps that are still running in the background.

You swipe up to quit each running app.

You should keep the amount of background running apps to 10 or less apps running.

For an iPad 2, I wouldn't have anymore than 6 or so background running apps still visible in the App Switcher.

Refer to my previous added link for other things to do to speed up older iPads, NOT just the iPad 2.

Good Luck!
