Apple makes you have to purchase a more expensive iPhone 5 or newer to sync and use the Apple Watch

One of the reasons I purchased a Pebble Smart watch, instead.

Pebble smart watches work with every iDevice made to date (except the iPad 2) running iOS 8 or later.

I use a PebbleTime steel watch with both my iPod Touch 6th gen and with my large iPad Pro.
