Q: Airport Extreme wireless problem with iPad and iPhone only

I run an Airport Extreme 802.11ac, connected to a Docsis DCM-301 cable modem.  For the past couple of months, I have had issues with wireless internet periodically going down on both of our iPhone 6's and our 4th generation iPad.  Here are the relevant details:

-The internet typically starts working again on the iPad and iPhones when you turn Wifi off, then immediately turn it back on. To my technophobe brain this means that some process is not getting renewed the right way.

- When it goes down on the iPad and iPhone, the wifi "icon" on the toolbar remains lit, so the devices do seem to think they are still connected - it's just the internet itself that doesn't work.

-There are no connection issues with ANY other devices - iMac, MacBook, Roku's, DVD, Dish Hopper, Ooma, etc.

- When I connect another wireless router into the cable modem, the iPad and iPhone internet connection is totally fine.

-I have tried multiple resettings of the Airport extreme, including a full factory reset, which did not resolve the problem.

-Lastly, when I had modem problems in January, I did temporarily have to use the Airport Extreme as a bridge, but have now changed it back to a pure wireless router (and again, have done a factory reset, so this shouldn't be an issue).

I would be thankful for any insight that anybody can provide!
