iPhone 6 on IOS 10, local weather not working.

Just updated an iPhone 6 to 10.0.1 and it all looks good except for one thing which is bugging me.

The weather app is not picking up my local weather.

I have turned location services on/off, disabled and enabled it for the app and reset my location and privacy settings.

I know it works because the BBC Weather app picks up my location instantly.

When you open the stock weather app, the spinning wheel appears next to the Wifi icon, the location icon appears but local weather remains blank.

I can add my location manually and it shows my weather.

In the notification section it says "Tap to Set Up Weather". I tap and I am back to the blank local weather.

I have tried using Wifi and 4G, still no joy. It was working on IOS 9.3.5.

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 5 in my house pick the local weather up no bother on IOS 10.

I am in Gibraltar, Europe.

Any ideas?

Just as an update, 2 weeks ago I have pursued it with Apple again and they assured me they are aware and there will be a fix available, they just do not know when.

I am in direct contact with them so will wait for iOS 10.3 and see if this fixes it, if not I will chase.

If it really is bugging you, open up a support call with Apple and then this may bring more attention to it.

Adrian,

This is the best news that I have heard so far. Again, when you swipe from the desktop of the iPhone to the right to bring up those screens that are quick glances (I forget what they're actually referred as) it will show my local area and the temperature...the proper way! Give it a few seconds and then it reverts to the major city where I live, not my locale, as it always launches from the Apple Weather app.

I think a fix is long overdue. Glad you persisted! 😉

Adrian,

Thanks for your latest report.

It's very strange. At one point I get my locale with no problem if I swipe from the left to the right in that quick Notifications area that comes up. Sometimes it stays on my specific locale. Other times, not. If I go directly to the Weather App first thing in the morning (I shut mine down at night often), it may show you the specific location for a second or two and then switches to the major city that I'm from.

Still not 100% right. 😕 I'm anticipating that someone will get back to you on this.

Thanks for keeping me and others in the loop on this.

Yes, issue still persists, even on 11.2 which just came out today. I have been at this with Apple who are now blaming weather.com.

I have just emailed weather.com but can I suggest everyone who is on this thread logs a call with Apple?

It's been over 1 year now.

I will see if Weather.com respond.

Also, something we just noticed, if you go to the Maps app on iPhone to a different country or far away area, the weather icons are displayed on it (bottom right of the screen) until you reach your area where they disappear.

How difficult can this be to fix?

Adrian,

I so appreciate your dedication to this. I feel the same. I notice on my "Notifications" slide out from the left on the desktop view on my new iPhone SE (yep, upgraded but wanted the smaller phone 🙂) that it will show my specific locale and then a few seconds later, the bigger city to where I live as in my previous posts above. So you're absolutely right, this hasn't been fixed. In fact, I rarely find any "new features" with new releases of iOS to be of something that is functional or correctional. It always appears to be an introduction to something new which eventually needs upkeep and isn't maintained.

Interesting that Apple puts the blame on Weather.com. This whole thing started with iOS 10. From there it should've been easy to figure out what had changed. Weather.com never had a problem prior to that.

Keep me posted. If you have a specific person or method to whom I am able to direct my complaint about this not working, please share.

Thanks,

SCOTT
