iTunes 12.5.1 Broke iPhone Sync

It sounds like you are unable to see any iOS device in iTunes 12.5.1 since you updated it. I would recommend using the following article to help you out there:

I had the same issue and it was fixed by manually updating the driver for the "Apple iPhone" that showed up in Device Manager. Basically the 12.5.1 iTunes update uninstalled the Apple Mobile Device Driver for Win10. See this link for details:

What I did was went to "device manager" by searching it up in the bar at the bottom left of your windows screen. Then I found something called "Portable Devices", you can also look for "Other Devices", "Imaging Devices" according to apple, it all should work. Then I right clicked on it and pressed "Update/Install Diver Software". I can not exactly remember but, something should pop up and you should be able to press something like "Install Drivers" or something very close to that matter. Once it did what it needed to do, (it took like 5 seconds) then iTunes immediately recognized my device. I hope this helps.

Yep that worked for me also, follow this link and complete all the steps iOS device not showing in iTunes for Windows It looks like the new version of ITunes removes the USB driver and it needs re-installed.

Your best bet is to uninstall iTunes and reinstall it. I just did that and it fixed my issues almost instantly.

Although my iPhone does show up in the Devices section, I can <click> on it to show the contents, but cannot get the usual "Summary" view. If I <right click> I then have options to sync or backup etc. but but no opportunity to customise the sync....... This is a very backwards step.

Select the device using this icon first (or at least the one that looks like an iPhone).

I had this same issue. It was working immediately before updating iTunes. I did not have the latest version and it was not capable of synching version iOS 10.0.2. After updating to iTunes 12.5.1 my devices were no longer recognized via USB.

I read about a similar issue and the recommendation was to remove all Apple software and re-install iTunes. I did this procedure and everything appears to be working again. The one noticeable difference is that iCloud for Windows is no longer installed. It seems pretty ridiculous that a recommended software update would put an user in this non functional state.

I have the same issue. I followed all the instructions to update the drivers but the drivers folder no longer exists in the location specified. Next step I guess is to uninstall & reinstall iTunes. 😟

There was an explanation over on Mac Rumors Forum that fixed this for me -

In Windows 10, fixing the USB drivers broken by the 12.5.1 iTunes update:

1. Connected device

2. Opened Device Manager

3. Found iPhone and ipad under Portable Devices

4. Right mouse click and say Update Driver

5. When prompted select local files on this computer

6. enter this folder for source of drivers, select search subfolders - "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support"

Did this for each device and it fixed it right up.

I am so tired of the failures from iTunes since this past spring regarding updates and installs that 2016 will be my last year for Apple Devices. iTunes is a poor administrative tool that Apple cannot seem to let go.
