It has to do with whether or not it is iMessage or standard MMS. Standard MMS, which is what happens if you have a non-iOS device in the group is controlled by the carrier, and that is why the iPhone has no control about removing users from the group.

As embarrassing as your question is, I believe you know where Steve Jobs is. A very thoughtless comment/question.

Send a group message on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

This can only be done with a group imessage all user using an Apple device.

You can't do it for an MMS group message - mix Apple device and non Apple device.

The function has not been removed. If you open the group message, and it has to be all iOS users, then tap on the ℹ in the upper right corner to open the Details pane. From there, if you wish to remove a person, slide the name to the left, and that will expose the Delete button. If you wish to add someone, the scroll down slightly to just below the list of participants, and you will see the ➕ Add Contact.

If those are not there, then the message is not all iOS users and iMessage.

this is all "well&good"" (which it's not) what if you aren aware what platform they use. Next what if all of you " friends " or "family" aren't iOS, are they no longer "friends" or "family". If I understand this right, it's very Elitist, & yes I know that is Apple's M.O. I've been with apple on every device since since the 80s, & phones since 3G, but they are carrying this all too far. Now, the other manufacturers are excluding them as well i.e. Samsung who makes many many devices & is just excluding Apple. So please tell me I misunderstand what you are saying. I truly apologize for carrying on so long, I love apple, & always want to remain a custome, yes they are a little more $, but anyo who's ever even held an apple product can tell where that $ went. Thank you so much for all of your help on so many things.
