Q: PPTP issues

So with PPTP removed, does this mean the user will not be able to hot spot their Windows laptop over PPTP VPN connection? L2TP does not seem to work either on iOS 10 hot spot, it works on any other device or WiFi.

If I setup an L2TP VPN as a profile on the user's iPhone, they can connect directly using the phone with out issues, only when they want to use the phone as a hot spot to connect their Windows \ Mac laptops to the corporate network then it does not work - the funny thing is, it will authenticate, but cannot see the network resources.

Has any one seen this?

iPhone 5s, iOS 10

I use L2TP on my iPhone without any problem. Perhaps you should see if you need to create a new VPN profile. I use the same setup on an iPod Touch and iPad Pro.

Are you using your iPhone as a hot spot to access corporate network resources?

No. Talk with your corporate IT people. PPTP is not secure, so I assume they would have an interest in getting you onto L2TP or IPSec.

Thank you for your reply Kappy, but as mentioned above, I tested the L2TP VPN with a hot spot from my Android device, it worked just fine, I can get to network resources. I also can connect to the network using this same L2TP VPN over my home's WiFi, the issue only occurs when I use the iPhone as a hot spot. I work closely with networks and I can tell the first question they will ask is what to open? I have no answer since all the rules are in place and working, except when we try to connect over the iOS 10's hot spot.

I'm sorry, but I have no way to verify this at this time. You should work with your IT people to find a possible solution. I have only this article at present: Get help with Personal Hotspot in iOS. Of course, you can always call Apple Support for assistance.
