Q: WatchOS3 - Mickey won't say the time

I've read that with the new Watch OS tapping on Mickey or Minnie will initiate a telling of the time in their voice.  So far, I have not been able to get them to say the time by tapping.  I have a first generation (pre-Series 1) watch, which hasn't had any issues with prior OS updates.  To resolve this issue I've:

  • Removed and re added the watch face and attempted both Mickey and Minnie.
  • Ensured that the "Tap to Speak Time" is enabled.
  • Made sure that Silent Mode is not enabled on the watch.
  • Turned the Alert Volume all the way up to maximum.
  • Ensured that other alerts are working - which they are.  Alerts for mail, messages, Facebook, and calendar entries all sound off.
  • Single tapped, double-tapped, and triple-tapped in trying to get them to say the time.
  • Restarted the watch and tried all the steps again.

I'm stumped.  Anyone else having this issue?  Is this only an option for the Series 2 watch?  Any suggestions that I haven't tried yet?

Next step would be restoring your watch.

Have similar issue. Mickey and Minnie voice worked on original Apple Watch Sport using watch os3, but on new series 1, it does not work.

Both my series 1 watches, now updated to OS 3, have speaking Mickey/Minnie faces.  I did nothing to enable this after the update - it just works !

Found a talking watch face toggle under Sound and Haptics in the watch app on the phone.

    Switched off.

Went into Mickey face and turned off talking watch face.

Went into Minnie face and turned off talking watch face.

    Turned off watch.

    Turned on watch.

Went into Sound and Haptics and switched on.

    Success.

I tried the steps above and it still doesn't work. Not sure if it's a file defect, hardware defect, or installation defect. Running out of options, short of visiting the Apple Store.

I found a solution that will absolutely make your Mickey speak.

    1. Silent mode is not off

    2. Connect iPhone to wifi (the most important step)

    3. Select Mickey or Minnie as your current watch face

    4. wait for 5 to 10 minutes (depends on your internet connection)

    5. Mickey or Minnie will start to say the time!

It does not matter if your keep tapping Mickey or waiting in dark screen, just wait for few minutes with wifi connection.

Re-pairing, restoring or restarting the watch is not needed at all.

Switching off then on the "tap to speak time" setting is also not needed.

The only thing is that you have to connect to wifi and wait for few minutes for Mickey to learn new language from the internet, lol.
