Yes. They absolutely ruined it. Instead of getting randomized articles they now group subjects together.

Yea, I don't understand why they would do this.  Do you know any apps that are similar to the IOS 9 news app?

Short answer is yes.  Long answer is that they've seem to copy this Google jumbled version that is completely unfriendly to checking the actual news or subscriptions.  I used the news app like crazy in ios 9 builds.  The reason I liked this over the google version is that it listed new articles in dated order, so it was easy for me to sign in and check 20 or articles and keep up to date.  Here's the flaws:

    • Grouped into categories.  You cannot change the default categories and they seem to show up in random order.  For example, I get "briefing" then "Trending Stories" then "sports," and on.  I don't like sports at the top, and would like to custom organize my feed
    • "Trending Stories."  I've tried to get rid of this, but it seems that Apple wants to push certain publishers at the top.  Probably paid for.  These are not articles that I am ever interested in.
    • The size of the preview.  Consistent with Apple's large theme in ios 10, the article previews take up a lot of real estate.  Therefore without the custom categories or news feed management, I might have to scroll a lot screen space to get to an article or category.
    • Overall feel now feels exactly like the Google news app and a CNN webpage.  Article flung all over the place with no concern about size, spam, customization.

In conclusion, this is a terrible update.  Seems like this is already an App: Google News.  I can see that the ios 9 version needed an update as it was just a list, but I thought Apple would have stayed truer to the simpler format.  If they want to push this bloated version, then customization is a must.  Personally, I would have articles show up in newest to oldest with no thumbnails as I would like to easily thumb through lots of articles to quickly ready them.
