I would like to see this implemented as well. I feel as a news app it should be "completely" tailored to my tastes. It's very demotivating for me to open the news app with the hope of new articles regarding my personal interests only to have a huge chunk of the main screen filled with political outrage. I'm trying to hear less about Donald Trump and North Korea missile tests and more art, technology, and science, which are my personal primary interests. I don't think it's entirely useless, the app works and it works well but we need more power over what content is being pushing to our devices.

You should submit your feedback to Apple using the link already given.

I'm curious, what do you want the News app to motivate you to do?

Well, not so much motivate as that was a poor word choice in my end. I simply meant that it should have more customization options for the user to see the content they choose.

Ok, got it.

Apple has never been especially big on customization. But, who knows.

There is a rather quirky news app called "Quartz" that has a feature that will mute stories about Trump for twenty-four hours.

Hello there, fredym1!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are wanting to customize the News app in the For You section. That's a great question! Check out this article with steps for Use News on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Specifically:

Customize For You

Add the topics and channels that interest you from the Explore section to your Favorites. This helps News decide what type of stories to show you in For You.

To see a list of the channels and topics that you follow, tap Favorites. If you subscribe to a channel, there’s a separate section in Favorites for your subscriptions. You can also sort Favorites by name, recently visited, or most visited. Just tap Favorites at the top of the screen, then choose how you want them sorted.

Want quick access to News headlines? Learn how to add the News app to your Widgets on your iOS device.

User uploaded file

Add a topic or channel

  1. Tap Explore at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Browse categories, channels, and topics that you're interested in.
  3. When you find a channel or topic that you want to add, tap User uploaded file.

Looking for a specific topic or channel? Tap the Search tab and enter what you're looking for. You can also add a topic or channel you search to your Favorites. Just tap User uploaded file next to the search result.

Remove a topic or channel

  1. Go to Favorites.
  2. Tap Edit.
  3. Tap User uploaded file in the upper-right corner of the channel or topic that you want to remove.

You can also mute a channel to prevent stories from appearing in your For You feed.

Cheers!

I have the same question and I don't believe chris_g's response really addresses the question fully. The answer only addresses the channels and topics the user would already have in their favorites. The answer provided does not answer how the user can remove Politics, Top Stories, Featured Stories, and Trending Stories from For You.

I find these sections provide me with articles and topics I'm not interested in. They also take up too much space leaving the More For You sections --the articles selected based on the user's favorites, small and few in-between.

Although I welcome the cosmetic changes to the News app I do not like the unsolicited content being pushed.

Again, I would like to remove politics, top stories, featured stories, trending stories from the for you page on news app? please have this it was better before we can remove it

Thanks

I have this exact question. I had my Apple News app set up perfectly before the recent update. Now I only see these top and trending stories, none of which I care about or want to read. I cannot find a way to opt out of them, so I set up an account on this forum just to find an answer.

I tried to leave feedback, but there is no where to leave feedback for the News app that I can see. The News app is not listed anywhere in the apps section of the feedback link you provided. Is there a number I could call? I am old school and would rather talk to a human being.

I just talked to a human being at Apple who confirmed that the Trending Stories and Featured Stories cannot be removed. So I deleted the app as well. I loved it before the update because it was 100% customizable by me. I checked it multiple times a day. I have no interest in it now that it forces all this content on me that I do not want.

So leave the feedback under iOS 10, or iPhone or anything reasonably close. As long as you explain what you're leaving feedback about, the exact category probably isn't that important. Talking to a person is fine for your technical support question. However, it won't get your feedback registered with Apple.
