Q: Transferring Aperture photos to Photos

I had about 20,000 pictures in Photos. I had another 18,000 pictures in Aperture (and thus iPhoto library). The latter go back decades. I had transferred pictures from Aperture individually into Photos by Exporting>Original. Yet when I do that the size of the individual picture file drops from 4.5 MB TIFF to 500 KB JPEG. I then tried Exporting>Versions. I still end up with low file JPEG.

I do not see much of an apparent drop off with the small size JPEG file for viewing in Photos. The size of the image and quality seems the same. I doubt that many pictures will be blown up for printing.

None the less should I export the images as TIFFs and if so, how do I do that?

My Photos Library will be very large if I export all as TIFFs. I was thinking of making a decision on the view outstanding pictures to go with TIFF but leave the other not so great as JPEG and call it a day.

1 - this is not a Photos for Mac question but an Aperture question - In the iPhoto export window you simply set the kind as TIFF - I seldom use Aperture but expect that is an option in Aperture but am not sure - there is an Aperture forum and Terance Devlin adn Léonie who are expert Aperture users probably will be by to comment

2 - for virtually all uses a good quality JPEG is as good as a TIFF and MUCH. MUCH smaller - 99.999% chance that using a JPEG is fine and even though Disk storage is cheap TIFFs are probably not nearly worth the storage cost
