Q: Email subject line in iOS 10, without a preview of the whole email...

I use my phone for a lot of emails for work. Often times I get emails from myself from an auto email system. I have the notifications set up to show me on the lock screen. But I don't need a whole preview of the emails. I prefer to see just the subject line. I can't figure out a setting to include the subject line as was available before upgrading. It just says the senders name and "Mail Message". Is there a fix to this or something Apple decided was not a necessary option?

Also, I want to go back to being able to delete from the lock screen without going to View first. It's an unnessary step to simply delete emails that I know I don't need!

To my knowledge this is all you can do:

Set notification preferences. Go to Settings > Notifications. Tap an app to set its notification options. For example, choose whether to allow notifications from a specific app or turn the sound on a notification on or off.

Go to Settings > Notifications > Mail > [your email carrier]

Scroll down.  Turn "Off" the "Show Previews" row.

I have the show previews off. I want the notification of new emails. I just want to be able to see the sender and the subject line like it used to be. it's the same on the lock screen and when the alert comes in at the top. Thanks for trying to help!

I agree, sender and subject is a very logical configuration to have. I have to also say that with every notification in a separate "frame" I can see much less content know. It looks nicer, but a lot of space is unused.

I had the same setup as the original poster. This is a serious loss of functionality for me and my work. It's serious enough to even consider switching over to Android. If I cannot see the subject line then I either have to open and read every single email I receive or I ignore emails and risk important and sometimes critical alerts and notifications that could cause revenue implications.

Why did Apple decide to take this away?

I too am suffering here. The option to delete with a swipe has gone - Now we are forced to view before being presented with a delete option. Unhappy with this - unnecessary additional step ?

Also agree. You either get the whole message in a pop-up (useless) or "Mail Message." I want the sender and subject...

How do they think showing the senders name, and "Mail Message" helps anything...where the heck did the email subject go...so frustrating every time I receive an email it makes my blood boil.

When I swipe to the left, I get the option to "Clear" which deletes the notification.

Preview is not the issue...there is no email subject without a long preview.

The option to delete the e-mail (not the notification) is whats causing me issues.

I receive numerous emails daily, I was enjoying the preview (5 lines) and the option to quickly delete the garbage from the lock screen. This facility has been taken  away from us.

This is the problem - apparently if I go out and buy a 6s or a 7 I will be able to continue using this option via 3D touch..

    Very naughty,  Apple

You're not paying attention.  We want just the SENDER and SUBJECT, like what existed before.  I don't need to read an entire freaking email on my lock screen.  Showing that means many other possible email notifications are not shown on the lock screen.  The change from Apple means reduced functionality, not more.  That they have people who think this change is an improvement is shocking.
