Q: Ios10 and iBooks

after downloading the new ios 10 on my iPad, I cannot use ibooks to download new publications.  It simply does not open but continues interminably to load.  It will load properly on my iPhone, but not my iPad, both of which have been upgraded.  The books I have already downloaded are avsilable, but I cannot download new books.

    We understand that your iPad is not able to download new books from iBooks, but your other devices are not having an issue. We’re here to help!

     

    To begin, lets look at the network your devices are connected to. Is your iPad connected to the internet via cellular or Wi-Fi? How is your iPhone connected when it does not experience the issue?

     

    We’ll get started with some basic troubleshooting and if the situation continues, please let us know more about what is happening and what networks your devices are connected to. 

     

    To begin troubleshooting, close iBooks completely by following the instructions in this article:

     

    Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

     

    After iBooks has been closed, restart your iPhone. 

     

    Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

     

    Once your iPhone starts back up, test the functionality in iBooks again.

    I am working both items over Wifi.  The iphone works whether connected to WIFI or not.  Ibooks loads properly.

     

    I Have done both things you have recommended, and ibooks still works perfectly on my phone, but not on the ipad.

     

    Appreciate the assistance and will take any further suggestions.

    Correction:  ibooks page now loads on the ipad, but the purchased books still do not download from the cloud.

    I Finally just reset my settings without erasing my data.  It must be that the upgrade to the iPad was Done incompletely.  When I re-started the iPad, it did some upgrade thing and works perfectly now.  I don't know what happened, but it is fine now.

    Thanks for the reply and information. At this point, we would like you to perform a reinstall of iOS 10 on your iPad. This step will help us isolate the issue a bit further.

    Reinstalling should not affect any of your data, but it is always a best practice to make sure you have a current backup in either iTunes or iCloud.

    How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

    Once you have a current backup, follow the steps from the "If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up" section in this article:

    If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on - Apple Support

    These steps will reinstall iOS. Keep in mind that these steps were written for a different issue, but they will still help us isolate the situation further. Test out the the functionality of iBooks after the reinstall finishes and let us know if the issue continues.

    Not necessary.  This is now fully functional, the way i expect it to operate.  Much more was disrupted than I was aware of - App Store, cloud,....  all of these are now back and working smoothly as expected.
