Sep 15, 2016 2:43 PM in response to Lex Gardnerby Jimcamel,★HelpfulI had certainly read (earlier this summer) that as far back as IOS 8/9, that the TV3 could act as a hub to allow for access from the outside world - although it wouldn't support Siri. The support pages now seem to require ATV 4 - what gives ?
I do have my ATV3 logged into both iCloud and my AppleID - and the locator page (status) on the new Home App shows it as connected. While I am in the house with my phone, all id good. Once I go outside and turn off WiFi and just try to run Data it reports "No accessories responding" - although it continues to show the TV as 'Connected'.
When I switch and use an iPad (IOS 10) as the hub - then everything works off the phone exactly as I expect - it shows the TV3 as 'Not Connected' - shows the iPad as Connected and I can range outside the house and operate it with my phone. Switch back to using the TV3 as the hub and it continues to show as connected - but the devices will not respond.
So, asd TV3 been dis-continued for this purpose or did Apple just break it ?

No, it never had it. It was a new feature with the ATV 4

Sep 15, 2016 2:42 PM in response to Meg St._Clairby Lex Gardner,That's incorrect Meg St._Clair and others who are suggesting that ATV3 was never supported. I am having the same issue as Jimcamel. I was able to control my home kit lights remotely via my ATV3 up until iOS 10. I don't know why, and I find it hard to believe, that Apple would intentionally remove a feature from an older device. Additionally, here's an article with a link to a now modified support page documenting that ATV3 was supported. https://9to5mac.com/2015/06/03/homekit-products-instructions/
