Touch ID not working on iOS 10 -iPhone 5s

I updated my iPhone 5s to iOS 10 this morning and as soon as I turned it on it said

"Unable to activate Touch ID on this iPhone"

And it wiped all my fingerprints so now when I go to put my fingerprint back on Touch ID

It reads

"Failed: unable to complete Touch ID set-up. Please go back and try again"

I've tried multiple time and turn my phone on and off again but it still doesn't seem to work

Hi Arif you may google that information but let me give u heads up mate it is not going to fix iphone issue.

I have tried all available options and reached out to apple for support and you wont believe they asked me to pay for repair claiming that my iphone touch id is spoilt and need to repaired.

I dont understand how can the ios update brick the iphone hardware and then apple is asking for repair cost.

Totally disappointed...

Dont waste ur time just live with it or if u got money replace the phone

This happens if you are using a Touch ID from another phone, or if their is a shortage in the flex cable. Try replacing the plate under the digitizer if this doesn't work examine the home button itself looking for and tear or deep scratch if you don't see anything then it's because you are using a button that's not the original button from the phone

I don't know why you are having these issues. Perhaps you got a corrupted update which is not common but does occur.

Try this to see if it helps: hold down these buttons at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears: a) the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume down button (iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus) or b) the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button (all other models)

If a restart does not help try a System Restore. First backup your device using iTunes. Also import your photos to your computer and copy all important data if possible. Try restoring from backup first and testing it. If it does not help, you may have to restore as New and reconfigure from scratch as the backup could be corrupted. For this reason it is important to have your photos and data saved separately from the backup. Here are the steps for a Restore:

I upgrade my iPhone 5S to iOS 10 today. The Touch ID was working fine in iOS 9.3.5 before upgrading. After the upgrade I am getting "Unable to activate Touch ID on this iPhone.". I've tried the hard reset, system restore, and setting the phone up as a new phone, all to no avail. I have not tried downgrading yet. I doubt that my Touch ID sensor spontaneously failed as a result of the upgrade, so this really seems like a software bug.

Same problem as everyone else! iPhone 6+ was updated to iOS 10 and Touch ID stopped working. I did everything mentioned (home button/sleep wake button restart; system restore), and the problem continues. It worked fine with the previous version of iOS.

Where are you Apple??? Respond to our queries and let us know you're working on a new update to fix the problem!!!

You might need to enter your passcode or Apple ID instead of using Touch ID for one of these reasons:

  • If you've just restarted your device
  • If your fingerprint isn't recognized five times in a row
  • If you haven't unlocked your device in more than 48 hours
  • If you've just enrolled or deleted fingerprints
  • If you're trying to open Touch ID & Passcode in the Settings menu

If you still need help, follow these steps. Try using Touch ID after each step:

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS.
  2. Make sure that your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry.1 For the Home button, use a clean, lint-free cloth to wipe off any dirt or debris.
  3. Your finger should cover the Home button completely, touching the surrounding metal ring. While Touch ID is scanning, you shouldn't tap too quickly or move your finger around.
  4. If you're using a case or screen protector, make sure it doesn't cover the Home button or the surrounding ring.
  5. Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and make sure that iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is on, and that you've enrolled one or more fingerprints.
  6. Try enrolling a different finger.
  7. If you can't enroll any of your fingers, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact Apple Support.

1 Moisture, lotions, sweat, oils, cuts, or dry skin might affect fingerprint recognition. Certain activities can also temporarily affect fingerprint recognition, including exercising, showering, swimming, cooking, or other conditions or changes that affect your fingerprint.
