Q: Closing and Switching apps in IOS 10 on IPad Mini 4

I just upgraded IOS 10 on my IPad Mini 4 and I can figure out a way on how to close or switch to apps that are running in the background.  When I double tap on the Home button, it just put me back to the home screen on IOS 10.  I no longer see the apps that are running on my IPad.  I cannot switch between apps to apps or close apps.  My Home button seems to be working for everything else, but not with switching apps or closing them.

How do I get this back with the Home button?

According to the iOS 10 User Guide it should still behave that way:

    Switch between apps

You can easily switch between the apps you’re using.

View open apps. Double-click the Home button to reveal your open apps in the app switcher. Swipe left or right to see more. To switch to another app, tap it.

    Try this:

Hold down these buttons at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears:  a) the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume down button (iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus) or b) the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button (all other models)

If a restart does not help try a System Restore. First backup your device using iTunes. Also import your photos to your computer and copy all important data if possible. Try restoring from backup first and testing it. If it does not help, you may have to restore as New and reconfigure from scratch as the backup could be corrupted. For this reason it is important to have your photos and data saved separately from the backup. Here are the steps for a Restore:

Double click on the Home button doesn't let me switch apps anymore like it used to before IOS 10.  When I tried holding down Sleep/Wake button and the Home button, the IPad resets, but it doesn't fix the problem with the Home button.  I really don't want to do s System Restore unless I really have to.

Make sure you haven't enabled any features in Seetings > General > Accessibility. The double click does still work, so there's something different with your device.

Problem solve by going to Accessibility, Home Button, and changing the clicking speed to your liking.  Mine was set on default and that was too fast for me to use.

There is generally no need to do this unless the app is malfunctioning. To stop background activity, turn off Background App Refresh in Settings>General>Background App Refresh. Most of the apps in the Recents tray are in a suspended state. Removing them from their does nothing of any consequence.

I have iPhone 5. I've had this problem for 3 days since upgrading. I came across this here and the first answer worked. The speed of the Home button under Accessibility was on "default".  And, no matter how fast I pressed the "Home" button , it would not show me my open apps.  I changed the speed to slow and, now, no problem. The upgrade must have changed the speed setting. Try this solution before the others. Thank you very much.
