Q: A particular Deleted SMS reappears

So, I updated my iPhone 6s to iOS 10.0.1 (India) two days back.

Yesterday, I received a test text (sms, not iMessage), from a contact who also updated his iPhone 6s Plus to iOS 10.0.1 (US).

I deleted the text message. But, it keeps reappearing periodically.

I checked the Storage status of Messages app in Settings, and it shows Messages(Saved): 2.1 MB - 2.1 MB is the size it shows when I receive that particular SMS.

I've done the following:

Erase iPhone and set it up as a new iPhone

Result:

Messages are empty - Storage status of Messages is 0MB

That Text reappears - Storage status of Messages is 2.1MB

Delete the Text. Messages are empty - Storage status of Messages is 2.1MB

Text continues to reappear after deleting it each time.

The Storage status continues to be 2.1MB after i receive the text for the first time after the iPhone is reset and set up freshly.

Note: I do not restore any backup after the iPhone is erased. I've erased the phone multiple times and each time I have set it up as a new phone. But That particular text from That particular contact continues to reappear.

I also had a conversation with the same contact - both SMS and iMessage, and none of the other messages appear. That particular SMS (2.1MB) is the only one that does.

    Quick update:

I reverted to iOS9 and the problem still existed.

I am assuming, does it have to do something with Messages being saved somewhere? But I have disabled iCloud backup for Messages. Or something to do with the Sender?

Note: Now I'm back to iOS 10.0.1

    Delete the entire conversation.

Is it worth reinstalling you whole device and going to all this trouble to delete a single text message?

I wonder what the message said...

Spounds like your friend has never deleted that text message from his phone. i know that a failed message has been sent before on various occasions. Could be something similiar. Have him delete the message And see if that helps.

I did delete the entire conversation.

And, the problem with the text is that, irrespective of how many times I keep deleting it, it keeps reappearing. THAT, is annoying.

PS: My brother and I were checking the new features in iMessage, with all the bling effects. Like I said, it was a test message which said "hgkh". Haha!

Hey. I thought so too. I asked him to delete the entire conversation and all backups, if any. It didn't help.

Though I clear all conversations, it still continues to show that annoying number - 2.1MB in storage. I'm assuming it HAS TO exist somewhere.

PS: I've now set message history to 30 days. Will wait until 30 days are over to see if it's wiped clean.

    Let's see how this goes!
