Q: Is there a video editor/ app that will allow user to crop the viewable area the same way a photo is cropped?
Sorry if I posted in the wrong area! I hope it's clear what I am looking for- I've tried searching but results turn up what I call "trimming" instead of cropping. The reason I'd like to find a tool that can crop a video's frame area is so that I can post videos from our home surveillance camera of car thieves, mail thieves & other suspicious activity caught on camera and make it focus in on the relevant part without showing my whole front yard, making it obvious where I live. The camera itself is an outdoor wired camera that records to (I believe) DVR but does not have a zoom feature. When I playback video, I can zoom in if I watch on my iphone but not the macbook. I prefer something I could use on the macbook. I have no idea if this is even possible but it sure would make me happy if it is!
I should probably mention that I have never edited video or used any programs or software so I would need some kind of video tutorial (or a savvy 6th grader) to teach me how to use it.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), null

Try iMovie, and click the crop button. you should be able to crop it, but it will need to align with the original aspect ratio of the video.
