Q: What is the size of the Philips screwdriver I must use to open the memory slots on my late 2009 iMac ?

What is the size of the Philips screwdriver I must use to open the memory slots on my late 2009 iMac ?

I have already bought three different sizes at random and none work ... I live in Germany so I need the size in German units (if different from the US).

Many thanks thanks for your help !

    Hello Dialabrain,

A sad conclusion to my attempt at extending the RAM memory on my iMac : after more than 20 kernel panic and application crashes, when my computer started to make distressed rabbit noises, I finally decided to extract the 2 new memory cards, send them back to the seller (Crucial) and put everything back as it was before this frustrating attempt at improving my iMac.

I much rather have an iMac with 4 Gb that works well than an iMac with 8 Gb that keeps crashing !... Now, the iMac is again running smoothly. I just wish I knew why these memory elements, which were the right ones for my iMac, created such a disruption ...

Anyway, many thanks again for your very kind help !

You're welcome. I wish you had tested just the new RAM in the machine before you sent it back. I've never heard of bad RAM causing noise. Anyway, glad it's working ok with 4GB.

I did not think of testing the new RAMs alone as, I would have had only 4 GB like before and I knew the old RAMs worked well. I think the new RAMs had some kind of physical defect that stopped them (or at least one of them) from sitting properly in the slots. Anyway, the machine is running well again, if only with 4 Gb, and it is the most important for me ! Next time I buy an iMac, it will have 8 Gb from the factory and the most recent Mac OS, as my current iMac also defeated all my attempts at updating it to the latest Mac OS...

    All the best !
