IOS 10 mail puts messages threads in seemingly random order

Since the IOS 10 Update email message threads on my iPhone 6+ are in a really weird order. There seems to be no real order to how the messages are displayed once you click on the thread.

The first message in the thread seems to be randomly placed under some of the replies, and occasionally the entire thread will be under one of the replies as if the message breaks were not detected.

I have Enabled the "Most Recent Messages on Top" setting which has meant the last message and your entry point to the thread is at the top (rather than in the middle with this setting disabled), but the message order still has the above quirks.

The issue is the same in my Office 365 mailbox and Hotmail.

OK. Here's a solution.

While I still think what Apple did to threaded emails is crap, apparently, there is now a double blue arrow toward the top right of every threaded email conversation.

When one clicks on this blue arrow, the ability to access individual emails within the thread is regained—it's an "expand/collapse" function, essentially.

This restores some of my faith in Apple iOS Mail—at least, as far as it is most critically concerned.

This change brings up a larger issue in Apple's platform: that when they release a new iOS, they explain very little.

I mean, perhaps this was demonstrated in the WWDC video somewhere, but who has the time to watch all of that crap? Plus, they rarely go into every minute function change.

Anyway. Still some other issues with the changes to Mail, but I hope this helps everyone.

I can't say this is a universal (or long term) fix, but the following seemed to solve it for me:

• Settings > Mail > toggle Most Recent Message On Top "On"

• While you're there, also toggle Organize by Thread "Off"

• Close and reopen the Mail app

• Settings > Mail > toggle Organize by Thread back "On"

• Close and reopen the Mail app

If you swipe left, and select "More", at least on some messages, you will see "Show related Messages", which gives a display of only the messages in the thread like we had before. This is more cumbersome than just swiping, as we could do previously. I found a settings dialogue to control what swiping does, but it does not offer an option to show related messages.

Solved!

In the main message view a level before where all the messages are in a list with all the details, there is a little double arrow to show it's a threqded message. Tap this little double arrow and it expands the list of messages in the thread to you and manage them easier. Make sure threaded messages and show latest message to the top is switched on in settings for mail and you will be back to being productive with messages again.

The only solution I could find is to turn threading off all together. From a business, Email user's point of view, this update is completely useless. I spent 10 minutes yesterday trying to reply to one email in the middle of a chain. It was absolutely impossible. Only after turning threading off, then searching for the original email, could I reply to just that one message. Apple - please, please FIX this!

To get your email threading back to an approximation of the old iOS 9 version:

1. Go to "Settings" and "Mail" and then scroll down to the "Threading" section and select "Most Recent Message on Top"

2. To scroll to a particular message within a thread, use the blue "<" and ">" arrows at the top right of the screen. The "<" arrow goes to older (prior) emails; the ">" arrow advances to newer (more recent) emails.

3. To reply to a particular email within a thread, go to that email, and then swipe left. You will then have the choice of replying to the email (blue circle with reply arrow symbol), flagging the email (orange circle with flag symbol), or deleting the email (red circle with trash can symbol)

Hope this helps! It took me a lot of research to figure all of this out.

most recent isnt much help. Turning it off isn't the option either. I've managed my Email my thread for along time it used to go into another window and give a list of emails associated with the thread. I could easily select the one I was needing. Now I have to scroll 50 pages to find what Im needing. for a thread of 2 emails it migj work. Not when you have 30.
