Can not read ePub books in iBooks for iOS

Since 9.3 all ePub books that I load to iBooks appear blank. It seems as if they are there since i can flip pages, but all pages are blank.

iBooks is now unusable. I was hoping it would be resolved with IOS 10, but it wasn't. See image:

I can read the books perfectly in iBooks for Mac.

What I have tried:

- deleting all content and resyncing

- completely resetting my iPad

- loading books through Mac server

iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iOS 10

Seriously? Couldn't use iBooks since it crushed (and keeps crushing) since iOS 9.3 as well. I think the problem is with quantitues. I have over 3k epubs on my iPad air2 and it stopped working. But my iPhone library with 20 books or so works as usual. They say the quantity doesn't matter but that's obviously not true. Afraid to upgrade to ios10, will be waiting for more feedback :-(. What a pain.
