Q: iOS 10 battery drain / overheating

I Updated my iPhone 6 64gb to iOS 10 yesterday, today with normal low usage my battery (charged every night) has dropped from 100% to 38% in just over 1 hour   I've also noticed that in use it is getting very hot something it never did under iOS 9, so apart from the positive of now having a winter pocket hand warmer it will be a useless phone after mid day   I hope iOS 10.0.2 comes out quickly to address this issue, a very disappointed Mac user since Mac OS 8.5

Really?  You are still telling us it is because we are using our iPhones? This is a problem because Apple released a bad IOS. My phone is barely a year old and before IOS 10 was excellent at running til 10 pm with anything I wanted to do. I expect this from a 3 or more year old iPhone. Not a 6Plus. This is APPLES FAULT. Please stop insulting us.

Apple is the problem. Fix it now.

If you want Apple to fix the problem, you will need to take the phone to Apple. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store. I don't know what you mean by "barely" a year old. Do you mean it's past the one year warranty?

YYes to all of this. I'm tired of being told it's me. Or an app. Or because the moon is not aligned with the Apple Star. FIX IT. This is my business you are screwing around with.

TTaking it to an Apple Store will not fix the problem of an IOS 10. Are you not reading the multitude of entries? You must work for Apple because that is their answer. THE PROBLEM IS IOS-10, not our iPhones. Mine is less than a year old. Not sure how you are understanding that. No problems til IOS 10.

If it's less than a year old, it's under warranty. Take it to Apple.

No, the problem is most likely not iOS 10 itself. It's far more likely to be an app that isn't playing well and/or corrupted data. If you're not willing to do the troubleshooting yourself, Apple will be more than happy to help you with it.

My problem with with my iPad mini 4. Either 10.0.2 or an application update has finally solved this problem.

Mine was running really hot when charging and while in use. Yesterday I updated to 10.0.2 and the problem is gone.

When I connect my iPhone 6 to the bluetooth in my car or my sound bar at home, the phone gets very hot and the battery drains very quickly. This has only happened since ios 10, I upgraded to ios 10.0.2 in the hopes that this would be resolved but nothing has changed.

Further to this if I select a song from my car's entertainment system (iPhone connected via bluetooth) the song that I selected doesn't play, it changes song but to something that I haven't requested. (I hope that this makes sense).

I can't use my phone in the car because the battery is draining to quickly and it is illegal to talk on the phone without bluetooth. This is very inconvenient for me.

I got my iPhone 7 last Monday.  As of Sunday, the battery is not holding a charge.  This morning I watched it drain in 42 minutes from a full charge to 70%.  2 quick calls under 2 minutes.  A Swarm check in at Starbucks and three texts.  2 facebook scrolls.   It was plugged in for the trip to SBX.  I have updated to 10.02. I have shut off location services, checked my password.  My usage on Sunday and yesterday when it when from a full battery to dead in 4 hours was minimal compared to other days.   Sunday it sat in my purse beyond taking 3 pictures, a 7 second video and posting that to Facebook.   This is a real problem.  Anyone having luck with the genius bar?   And yes... this phone is really hot. compared to my iphone6 when charging.   VERY UPSET. Apple fix this!!!

I don't have the overheating problem, but I feel like it's draining battery faster than before. Today I had charged it to 30% before I went out, then a few minutes later it was 20% and when I started browsing Facebook it died and the "no battery logo" showed.

I also recently started using the app "Battery Life" which I recommend to keep track of my battery health.

My iPhone 6 is a hot mess since the update.  I can feel the heat in my back pocket.  Never ran hot before.

I will be at 24% when the phone suddenly shuts down.  I plug it in to charge, and then it says 4%.  It suddenly jumps to 37% a moment later.  I don't know what iOS 10 did to my phone, but I don't like it.  Almost dead by lunch with minimal use.  I have to plug it in to charge in the middle of the day.  Why did this happen overnight?  So they could get me to buy the 7?

a lot of people are posting here but not reading the past posts. I SOLVED THE PROBLEM IN MY 6s

I did 2 steps together, 30 min to 45 min and it is rolling as it should, battery lives over 24h

1st step, reset your Network Settings, JUST THE NETWORK ones. Then you will have to re-configure your wi-fi connections and you will be ready for the 2nd step.

2nd step, install the 10.1.0 Public Beta release, search on Apple to install it, it is baby kids job. - and VOILÁ WORKS HAS IT SHOULD BE

the beta version, I installed about week ago, has no failures until now, all the iPhone functions are buggyless working

Miguel, thanks for reminding us, but...

    1) Can others confirm it works for them? The problem and solving might be an isolated issue for you.

    2) Why must the network settings be changed, why not only update to the newer iOS?

this issue is not the 1st that happens to me. when the iOS 9 came out I had a iPhone 5s in hands and happened exactly the same, the iPhone went out by ±30% and the Battery would not last more than 8 hours. when I went to Genius Bar, after the tests they did, the Battery health was perfect, and they recomend to do the Network reset as 1st step, which worked perfectly at that time.

so for this time I did the same, 1st Network reset, off course you need than about 1-2 days to understand if the Batery behaviour is ok or not, and meanwhile during the same night I saw on the news that Apple had relesed the 10.1.0 Public Beta, so I gave it also a shoot, why not, worst can not be, and yes works everything fine has it should be, as you can see in the photo, it was fully charged at 3hour and 33min ago and with 1 hour and 30min using the battery level stays at 94%
