Phone rotating when rotation is locked

Hi everybody,

i updated my phone to iOS 10 on the day of release and I was one of the unfortunate ones who encountered the "Connect to iTunes" bug. Eventually it all got fixed, but now I've got an issue with the phone. Basically I'll open an app or one of the preinstalled apps and when I exit them my home screen rotates by itself. Now I'm a person who keeps my rotation locked and it is locked, but somehow it rotates itself and the only why to reset it is to lock the phone and then unlock it, but when I open something then exit it, it does it again. I've tried rebooting it, but it still happens. Anyone else had the problem or does anyone know how to fix it?

LOL. Apple classic as ever till last decade. Having bugs with their ios then advising their user to reset to factory settings. I have this issue just today so i just googled and found this thread. Oh well, guess I just heck it. The next phone I buy won't be apple again. Having so much bugs with xcode bugs, iphone, even their discussion.apple forum, creating a simple account by pressing the enter key doesn't work LOLOL. Apple is joke! *Guess I better copy and paste what I typed here incase when I click the reply button it doesn't work and my text gone* Lol

My rotation is all wacky what I need to rotate it does it and when I don't want it to rotate it does I shouldn't have to turn my phone on and off each time just to correct it it's annoying.

I am having the same issue. It did it on my iPhone 6S Plus and my iPhone 7 Plus.

Will this be fixed??? It’s still happening on my iPhone 8plus. Do not tell me to restart or reset... I’m not doing this every time it happens. My apps also freeze every now and then.

Hi, Starman3107!

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. After reading your post, I see that your iPhone 6s Plus is rotating unexpectedly after updating to iOS 10, even though you have the rotation lock on. I definitely understand wanting to make sure that lock works as expected, and would be happy to help!

Try the following steps, in order, stopping when the issue has been resolved.

Turn the rotation lock off and back on. To do that, swipe up from the center of your screen to engage Control Center, and tap the lock icon (). I recommend restarting the phone after turning it off using the instructions here:
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Then, open Control Center and tap the lock icon again. Test to see if the screen still rotates after leaving an app.
Reset your iPhone settings by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. This will not remove any of your personal content (pictures, contacts, Calendar events, Reminders, etc) but it will revert customizable settings (wallpaper and screen brightness, alert sounds, Date & Time settings, etc) back to their factory defaults. It will also remove saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords, as well as any previously used APN or VPN settings.

After the reset is complete, turn rotation lock back on (it will also be reset to the default off), and test to see if the screen still rotates when exiting apps.
Backup your iPhone and restore it to factory settings. You can get instructions on backing up with iCloud or iTunes here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

After your backup is created, you can use the following article to restore your iPhone to factory settings: Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

Once the restore is done, set up your iPhone as a new device (meaning without your backup, at least temporarily). You can sign into iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and iTunes and App Store with your Apple ID. Then, test the rotation lock to see if it behaves as expected.

If it does, go ahead and restore your backup using the steps here: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup
