Ipod Classic won't show up on PC

I recently found an old ipod classic, it charges fine but won't show up on my computer anywhere - even in the device manager as suggested in most posts about this issue. Can anyone help me?

Cheers, Sam.

Do you have a USB power adapter, like the one that comes with iPhone or other device? If so, try connecting docking cable to it, and connect the iPod there. Do you get the battery charging symbol on the iPod's screen?

Since you have both a Mac and Windows PC, was the iPod previously used with the Mac or Windows PC? In other words, do you know if the iPod is currently formatted for Mac or Windows?

Try to (intentionally) put it into Disk Mode

How to put your iPod into disk mode - Apple Support

Before connecting it, you may want to shut down (power off) the computer. Disconnect all USB devices; you can leave standard USB keyboard/mouse connected, if used. If the computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so it's not running on battery power). Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect iPod to a direct USB port on computer, by itself. Try more than one port, if needed.

If recognized properly, iTunes prompts you to do a Restore with a message about "recovery." Let iTunes do the Restore to erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.

The cable is definitely working as i use it for my iPod touch.

I have Windows 10. It doesn't react at all to be connected, including any indication it is charging. The only reason i know it does charge is because the next time i use it the battery is back at full.

The first time i connected it after i found it, it went onto disk mode automatically (saying do not disconnect and then okay to disconnect) but wouldn't go onto anything else so i reset it using the diagnostic menu on the ipod, it now plays music etc but doesn't pick up on any computer (tried it on my mac as well).

Any idea of what the issue might be?

If possible, you should rule out faulty USB docking cable as the cause. Try a different docking cable that is known to be good. Or try the one you have with another Apple device (that has a 30-pin dock connector).

When you connect it to computer's USB port, watch iPod's screen. Does it say "Connected" or "Do not disconnect" or give other indication of a data connection? Or does it only show the battery charging symbol? Or does it not react at all to being connected?

You said "PC," so you use Windows? If so, what release?

I don't get anything when plugging it into a mains adapter. The ipod will definitely be formatted to windows, didn't have the mac until after i lost the ipod.

I have tried putting it into disk mode, restarting laptop, turning iTunes on and then connecting the ipod to the laptop using every port, and nothing has happened. I have tried every port with a USB stick and know they all work.

If iPod does not show it's charging from a USB power adapter, and docking cable is known to be good, your iPod appears to not have a proper dock connection. Are you sure it does charge currently, even though iPod's screen does not indicate it is charging? The screen is working normally, right, when you use the iPod to play songs?

If it's able to play songs now, let it play unattended until it stops playing due to empty battery. Then connect it to power for a few hours. The battery is back to full charge again?

The iPod's dock connector could be worn out or damaged, and not making proper contact on its "pins." Shine a flashlight into the iPod's dock connector, to see if there is any obvious debris, dust, or corrosion interfering with connection.

You said the docking cable is good, but try a different cable (preferably a newer cable) if you have one handy. The docking cable's connector may be worn in a way that still allows it to work properly with your iPod touch, but not your iPod classic.
