El Capitan After last security update the Mac freezes

Hello to all,

I have a MacBook Pro early 2011(2.2 GHz Intel Core i7). It has El Capitan 10.11.6 with 16Gb of RAM. A few days ago I applied the last security update from the App Store. Since then, it will not complete the boot up process. In fact it freezes on the welcome screen just after entering my password. Before applying the security update, it worked perfectly.

I've noticed that, while the wheel spins endlessly, the temperature of the Mac rises quite a bit.

I've tried the following actions to no avail:

1) Resetting the NVRAM

2) A safe boot

3) Running Disk Utility in Recovery Mode

4) File system consistency check restarting while holding Command+S

Can someone help ? Thank you

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), 17'' early 2011

Hi Malkovitch!

I see that your MacBook Pro is not starting up correctly after having installed the latest security update. I know how important it is to have your MacBook Pro working right, so I'm happy to offer some help. You've done an excellent job troubleshooting so far, but I do have a couple of suggestions. First, if you've recently made any changes to the MacBook Pro's configuration such as installing new RAM/Memory, you should reinstall the original memory to see if that resolves the issue. If you have not changed the hardware configuration, the next step would be to reinstall OS X. It's not necessary to erase the hard drive first, and you can follow the instructions in this article under the header "If you're reinstalling for other reasons":

How to reinstall OS X

Hello Allen A.

I did a reinstall of OS X, as suggested. Unfortunately it did not work and I'm still stuck. Any other suggestion short of erasing the volume and doing a clean install ?

I noticed something else while backing up some files before the reinstall. All the modification dates are set to a unique date -> 05 jan 2016. Any clue ?
