ios10 - Hide/show purchased music

Ever since I updated to ios10 yesterday, my music list has been flooded with undownloaded purchases.

How do I hide these? I can't find the setting anymore. I have checked General>..., iTunes & App Store>..., Music>...

Where is the setting to hide purchases anymore???

Thanks for any help!

Let me be a little clearer - what I did was make a smart playlist which consists of 500 songs, selected randomly, which I replace every so often. If I unhceck everything but downloaded music, I can access that playlist and it has no cloud music in it, and also does not include every song from any album I've purchased. I've done this several times and it seems to be a good workaround. The app still shows me everything I've bought "recently added" in the library screen, but I can select the playlist and there is nothing in it that I don't want. I'm also on a 5se because I cant' stand the size of the 6 or 7 but that shouldn't make a difference.

This was driving me insane as well (Christmas songs playing in July, etc., etc.) - for me it turned out that the music on my iPhone that would not go away after syncing with iTunes on my laptop (even in the Downloaded Music view) had actually been downloaded to my phone (I'm assuming I did this without realizing the consequenses - I'm also assuming it was music that I purchased using my phone instead of my computer).

So I had to go through my entire library on the phone (no small task) and find all the music I didn't want on the phone and manually remove the download from the phone (not delete it from my library).

I personally would prefer that iTunes on my computer be the true master of the music on my iPhone and only sync the music I have manually selected from my library, period - I don't want to have the music on the cloud factor into the equation at all.

Apple products and updates are becoming increasingly annoying to me as they don't "just work" anymore and really seem to be forcing you to use their cloud and streaming services.

I am considering going back to Windows and Android products the next time I upgrade.

This is extremely frustrating to me. Just when I get it figured out with a new operating system, they change it and I have to figure it out again. Now it seems they have taken away the option altogether! I do not want to see all of my purchases--it clutters up my phone and tries to play the songs when I don't want them to be played. I only want to see what I have intentionally added to my phone! Apple, come on!

No, if you shuffle your music it depends on which category you are in as to what it shuffles. So yes if you view by album it might play tunes from the album you have open even if they aren't on your phone, but if you view by song or playlist for example it plays just what is in those categories and not stuff that isn't on your phone your phone.

I don't know, Winston. From my google search, it seems a lot of people are having issues. Bottom line is that Apple took away an option that was so easy to just hide the purchased music from your phone. Many of us used that option and are frustrated that it is no longer there. I just spent almost an hour on the phone with Apple support, tier 2, and they cannot explain it or find a way around it.

This is what worked for me. The problem with "work-arounds" is that it is still possible to "see" purchased music by navigating the menus. When some songs that were meant for one member of the household then end up on another family member's device, this is problematic. This seems to be the only solution that gets rid of all the cloud links to previously purchased (but not "downloaded" to device) music.

Like many in this thread, I have been frustrated by music purchased from iTunes cluttering my Music app on my iPad and iPhone.

I want to control what music is on my iOS devices. I use playlists and genres heavily (but not shuffle, nor in a car). I rename Genres to give me greater control, and the purchased music defaults to its own genres in iOS which makes my experience even worse.

The two solutions that have worked for me are:

1) Use "Downloaded Music"

At first I was sceptical but as those defending Apple have argued, it does work. Just move it to the top of the iOS Music app Library via the Edit button. It's one click further, but all the sub-categories are there - e.g. Genres, Playlists, Artists, etc.

2) Switch off iTunes/App Store (i.e. sign your Apple ID out but stay signed into iCloud)

This removes all the purchases from the iOS device so has the same impact as 1). For instance, all my own Genres are now in tact as all the electronic purchases with their own genres have gone. I can retrieve the purchases later if I want them back. (Note: I have some purchased music in my playlists but they still appear correctly because - I think - I've downloaded them to my Mac first). This probably won't work for people who buy apps regularly, as presumably you'll need to log in/out frequently.

I'm sure there will be issues as iTunes (and Photos) seems to be increasingly poorly designed but, for the moment, it works for me.
