Q: ios10 - Hide/show purchased music

Ever since I updated to ios10 yesterday, my music list has been flooded with undownloaded purchases.

How do I hide these? I can't find the setting anymore. I have checked General>..., iTunes & App Store>..., Music>...

Where is the setting to hide purchases anymore???

Thanks for any help!

I don't use Music Match or anything from Apple. I've built up a large collection of music over the years on my computer(s) and I feel comfortable with my music loaded onto my idevices. I have backups. Worst comes to worst I just rip all of my DVDs and re-download my purchased music. I'm still not crazy about the whole streaming of music and video on cellular since not all carriers make that free (like T-Mobile, which is not my carrier).

I have no problem with the new settings, I can select the downloaded music category and that works fine, My problem is that the music controls do not obey the filter. I select that category and only see the downloaded music, but when

I press skip/play next either on the phone, in the car or through headphones it does not obey the category I have

selected. It selects next from the entire music library and thus starts streaming songs that are not on my device.

it's not nonsense, because if you press play and then shuffle, it will still stream songs off the cloud, without the option to block them.

selecting downloaded music only, does not fix the problem!!

Sorry your answer is complete nonsense. I am looking at the downloaded music category and seeing about 20 GB of music belonging to my daughter that is in the cloud and not downloaded to my phone. Previous to iOS10 I only saw my downloaded music, about 4 gb.

I guess for people that don't use the touch screen interface your solution is not an option. There is no way to do this through a bluetooth,USB  or headphone interface. When you limited the phone to downloaded only all play commands had no choice, now that it is a menu filter, if you have an interface that doesn't know about IOS menus then it uses the default all songs and starts streaming. You can turn off cellular data under Music, but if you have any wifi connection it will start streaming from the cloud and playing songs you don't want it to play. The music app does not save your selection for next time. If you exit the app and restart it you immediately will start playing from all songs. While I appreciate your use, and agree it is nice interface there are some of us that just want to put some songs on their device and hit play and know it will only play the songs on their device, This is no longer possible without using the touch screen interface and navigating a bunch of menus every time the music app starts.

I couldn't agree with you more, Ron. The current interface is clumsy and non-intuitive and disappointing. It took me hours to stumble upon this workaround. And as you've correctly stated, it's not even a workable workaround for everyone. Nothing was better than the simple 'Only Downloaded Music' toggle. Apple seems to make changes to things that simply work just for the sake of making changes, and then calls it 'innovation'. In the early days, when Apple was on the brink of extinction, their hardware and software was elegant and dependable. But now that they're on top of the world, their only concern seems to be making money. Design and function and customer satisfaction have taken a back seat to the bottom line. The sales people are running the show now, just as Steve Jobs once warned about, and the slogan "It just works." has become a memory of better days. (Don't get me started!)

Dead on Ron Slesta. That's where I first noticed. Using the Blue tooth audio connection in my VW. First song up was Nicki Minaj and I can not tell you how much I hate Nicki Minaj. Or Eminem, the second artist that played. Guess who was third? Macklemore. One of my top 5 burn their album on sight artists.

It has gone from a permanent setting to a per session setting. Makes it useless as a preference. Plus, when you turn it on, you can still find the music in the cloud doing a search.

What part of I ONLY WANT TO SEE MY DOWNLOADED MUSIC do you not understand Apple?

And not only that, even if you can somehow manage to play only the songs you want to hear, the Music app Shuffle algorithm totally *****. I have multiple thousands of songs on my phone, so why am I hearing the same one(s) repeatedly in the course of a single day? Even if it's a song I love, I ain't gonna love it for long if this keeps up. But that's a whole 'nother topic...

I feel as if the sun is shining on my head through a break in the clouds. So I am not the only who has noticed that issue. For 5 days straight I have heard the same songs on my shuffle, not necessarily in the same order. I can shut down the music app and restart it and guarantee I will hear about 90%of same songs over the next hour. I have 6 thousand songs on my Iphone.

    Six

    Thousand.

It acts like my Ipod, where I have to Reboot it everyone once in a while to reseed the shuffle algorithm

I was having this same problem, and missed the ios9 version of Turning off "Show all music". What I had to do, to keep my files on my laptop, but not sure them on my iphone > Go to settings > itunes and sign out. Then go to Music on your phone and hit/swipe each song and say "Remove download". FINALLY it removes it. I tried it many times, tried unsyching.. everything, but only signing out of itunes, and then removing the downloads worked.
