iPhone SE text alerts problem

iPhone SE text alerts problem

My phone does not sound an alert for an incoming text. This was happening even prior to the recent update. And, yes, I have checked do not disturb, sounds, notifications, and Air Drop. Any suggestions?

Okay, here's how I seemed to have solved this problem. It was a matter of going through all my contacts and making sure that "Do Not Disturb" was not turned on for each one indivdually. Now how did those contacts get that do not disturb turned on in the first place? That's a mystery, since I certainly did not do it myself.
