I have a strange problem with my RAM being taken over by Installers. When I check the Activity Monitor, 3 Installers are open and they start at around 80 MB of RAM used to about 7 or 8 after 10 minutes or so.

I have a strange problem with my RAM being taken over by Installers. When I check the Activity Monitor, 3 Installers are open and they start at around 80 MB of RAM used to about 7 or 8 Gigs after 10 minutes or so. I have to force them to quit, but I don't know what I'm closing or why they open in the first place. Apps downloaded from iTunes ???

Hi,

The last is a picture of Terminal's window.

Just because it lists "Console" does not mean it has anything to do with that app.

You have not said why or what you are trying to install so I can't help with that.

You could use Activity Monitor to Quit them.

After highlighting an item use the X in a stop sign type icon and Confirm Force Quit.

Thanks Ralph

What I failed to make clear is that I was not installing anything. I did an update with iTunes, for a lot of apps two days ago, and it was taking forever for them to do so. I even had to quit a few times because it was slowing down my Mac like crazy. I was just wondering if it wasn't residual Installers from the updates that were "waking up" and deciding to install themselves. The problem is that it gobbles up so much RAM that it makes the computer almost unusable... unless I quit the process of course. So, I still don't know what they are trying to install.

As for the Terminal window (sorry, I goofed on that one), it's been popping up for no reason several times this month and since I'm not geeky enough, I don't know what it means. Lots of things I don't know! lol

Try running this program and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

You have adware installed. Run the report again and where you see the red Adware, click Remove. Once complete, run the report again and post a copy into a new reply.

Or download this program which was written by Thomas Reed, a long time poster. The program will do the work for you which makes it easy.

Most people advise not to use cleaning programs. They can destroy your computer operation as they may already have done.

Hello Eric

Thank you for your help. It seems to have fixed the problem. Interestingly, it also deleted MacKeeper (that keeped bugging me about updating anyways), which now I know is good. Now, should I look into anything that is in red?

Cheers

I have a strange problem with my RAM being taken over by Installers. When I check the Activity Monitor, 3 Installers are open and they start at around 80 MB of RAM used to about 7 or 8 after 10 minutes or so.
