Q: iOS 10 - Show only downloaded music

Hi all, It appears that the Music app forces us to display our iTunes purchases. I do not like this and only want my downloaded music to appear on the device.

I'm not ok with tapping the >Downloaded tab every time I open the app. There must be a solution, so how do I fix this?

I would not have updated had I known this feature would be so strongly imposed. Thanks for your help.

My Downloaded Music "recent stuff" is in chronological order, as it is in desktop iTunes, not alphabetically.

Also, the first time I went to Downloaded Music through the library, it didn't show any other sorting options. I just went back in, turned Dowloaded Music OFF via Library/Edit, then turned it back on -- and now those sorting options do show up. So, thank you for prodding me in the right direction! But I still hate this system (I don't see how this an improvement in going between your synced music and your whole library), I hate the needless confusion, and I super ultra hate the Pastel Rainbow Microphone of Annoyance.

I Think I've figured out how to fix this. on the first page click on edit and it brings up the various options. Uncheck all the ones that say album, songs, artist and only leave downloaded music and playlists. it takes those other options off your music app and only shows the downloaded tracks.

That only gets rid of the other choices. It still will play everything from your entire iTunes library. I had tried this as well.

Does anyone from Apple Support ever actually answer any of these questions? I'd go to the "Patronise Bar" in a store but who has time for that?

This is the most infuriating development, alongside the amount of time it took me to find the shuffle toggle button. Apple is supposed to be leading the way in design, but design is supposed to improve things, and they seem to have lost sight of that.

I'm very sad to say this may well be my last Apple phone after many years with Apple since my first iPod. You've lost the plot Apple......

Now can someone from Apple Support actually di their job abd answer a question it's clear lots of people are struggling with?

    Think I've worked it out.

In Library make sure you can see the "Downloaded Music" option. If you can't as I couldn't, enter EDIT mode (top right) and add "Downloaded Music" to the view. Mine has a grey bar across the top saying "Showing only music on this iPhone".

I think that might be due to a selection I made in iTunes. I must confess I don't see a way to change that setting so if you're not synching to iTunes this may not help. Maybe the selection option another user mentioned is visible if you're not synching to iTunes?

Then if you seect your playlists, albums, etc. from within the "Downloaded Music" view, rather than the main "Library" view, you will not see tunes you don't want on your phone. Huzzah!

Insanity? Yes. Oh dear Apple, I think you've finally lost the plot.
