add to keychain but no autofill

I want to store all of my passwords using iCloud Keychain Access, but I don't want some passwords to Autofill. For instance, I do not want my user name and password to Autofill for my banking accounts--I always want to manually type those in. However, I still want those passwords to be securely stored within Keychain Access in case I forget. What is the best procedure for doing this? Currently, all passwords stored in Keychain Access are Autofilling into Safari no matter what. If I delete a specific Keychain and manually type in my user name/password into Safari and then select "never for this site" when prompted for save password, then the password is not stored. All I want is to store passwords without Safari Autofilling them! Thanks in advance!

Hi chrisnatrop,

I understand that you wish to keep your important passwords within keychains but you do not want them to be autofilled while using Safari. You can adjust the Autofill settings right in your Safari app. Here's a great link that can assist you with setting Autofill to work exactly how you would like it to. Safari 9 (El Capitan): Use AutoFill to enter contact info, passwords, and more

Change AutoFill settings:
Choose Safari > Preferences, then click AutoFill.
To turn AutoFill off or on, select the information you want to include in AutoFill, deselect the rest.
To change or delete AutoFill information, click Edit next to the information you want to change or delete.
Important: Safari autofills your information for anyone who uses your Mac with your user login. It also autofills your information for anyone who uses your other devices, if those devices and your Mac have iCloud Keychain set up.

Have a great day.

chris_g1,

thank you for you response, but your suggestion is not working. Let me restate: If I go to Safari, Preferences, Autofill, and select "Edit" for User names and passwords and delete the Website/Username/Password I do not want for Autofill then the associated Keychain is also deleted. That is not what I want. I want the Keychain to remain; I just do not want its username and password to Autofill in Safari. Within Autofill preferences, there is no option to remove a Username/Password without also removing the Keychain.

The only workaround I have found is to manually create a distinct keychain that is an "application password" separate from an automatically generated "web form password." But to do all that seems kind of hokey to me! Isn't there a better way? Why can't I just turn autofill off for specific "web form password" keychains without deleting it?

Safari's autofill is an all or nothing proposition. You can't pick and choose which saved passwords get filled in. If you don't want it to autofill but merely want a reminder in case you forget, then you need to create a secure note within keychain. You can type in anything you want here and it's only a notation for your records, not a saved password.

Open Keychain Access. select the icloud keychain unless you want to store only on one device, in which case choose login keychain. select file>create new secure note. Type what you need to remember.
