After installing OS 10.8.5 over 10.6.8 I lost my startup sound supresser. I have tried the "sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume=$80" code in terminal to no avail. Hate the sound...what to do?

This process was helpful in that I learned a bit more about the code used in the OS 10.8.5 Terminal. Since the code supresses sound at startup and continues at that level thereafter, this was not the fix I was hoping to find.
Again, APPLE has failed us faithful MAC users in not supply a simple on/off choice for startup sound.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for change. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner.
I have different values in my nvram command than you have shown.
sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume=%00
And I am positive that $80 will become
sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume=0
which is not the same thing at all. I do not know where you got your instructions, but I think they are wrong.
