Folders freeze when open on my Desktop

iMac 27-inch, Late 2012.

16GB 1600MHz DDR3

Running OS X 10.9.5

Problem: Every time I open a folder on the desktop, It freezes up after a few clicks. I have to relaunch the finder to close the folder.

- I've tried removing .plist file from preferences

- Under Sharing Permissions I've changed from "Read & Right" to "Read Only" then Back again.

- went through apple support and was taken through multiple steps I can't remember: I have a case # for that if needed.

Try booting into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try from there. If the problem is not repeated reboot normally and test again.

If you have a case # you should let Apple support know that their suggestions did not work.
