Q: Problems playing podcasts iOS 10 in car

Is anyone having connection issues with iPhone connected via USB cable to a car stereo? I just upgraded my iPhone 6s to iOS 10.0.1 and am having problems when playing podcasts in the Podcast app. Generally speaking, everything works fine, except for an occasional connection drop with the stereo, which causes the playback to pause for a second or two until playback resumes. It happens on a seemingly unpredictable basis. Prior to iOS 10, playback in Podcasts worked fine. All the podcasts are stored locally on the device, so it's not a problem streaming the data. I'm not sure if this is a bug in the new OS or something else. I've tried simply rebooting the phone, which didn't fix the problem.

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi Chris Dick,

I understand you are having some issues with playing podcasts via USB in your car's sound system.   The resource below provides some troubleshooting steps you can try for this issue.   I've highlighted some key information for you here.  Click on the link for complete details.

Get help connecting your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with your car stereo

    1. Restart your iOS device and your car.
    2. Connect your iOS device to a different stereo USB port (if you have one).
    3. Try a different USB cable.
    4. Update your iOS device.
    5. Install any firmware updates for your car stereo.
    6. Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a specific third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, contact Apple Support.

    Take care.

So, I'm still having problems with this. Thanks for the suggestions - I tried a bunch of them, but they didn't help - here's what I tried.

    1. Restarting the iPhone and car had no effect.
    2. There aren't any other USB ports on the stereo, so that's out.
    3. I didn't try a different USB cable, but it worked fine prior to iOS 10, so I think iOS 10 is the thing that needs fixed.
    4. I am running the latest version of all software, so there are no other updates to install.
    5. The car stereo doesn't have firmware updates.
    6. I did try playing from the Music app and also had some issues in the same way.

When I plug in the iPhone to the car stereo, in the music app, it does seem to acknowledge the car stereo as a dock connector, so I think there is some way that iOS 10 sees dock connections. Since the problems happen in both Podcasts and Music, there might be a lower-level OS issue in the playback - not sure. I'll see if things improve in upcoming iOS builds and if not, I'll try posting it as a bug somewhere.
